The magic carpet finally flies into London's Prince Edward Theatre. Disney's Aladdin opens on Wednesday, 15th June with previews starting on Friday, 27th May.

Can't wait for the video of A whole new world. I really enjoyed the show in New York and am already looking forward to seeing it again. Glad I nabbed those tickets at preview prices too  |

"Unfortunately", I'm in the US during Aladdin's previews, but I'm already booked twice at the end of June. Hugely enjoyed this on Broadway. Proud of your boy is one of my all time favourite (MT) songs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this on Broadway, think it will have a very successful run here. The Prince Edward is the perfect venue for it

Im really excited for this. Really impressed BY Jade Ewen in In The Heights and I love a bit of Disney. Treated myself to a great stalls seat for the first week of previews.

Both the Lion King and Beauty and the Beast are/were excellent, but then Disney lost it with Tarzan, the score was good, but the show wasn't. Here I am talking about the Broadway production obviously it done better in Europe, probably because of the strong score. then the Little Mermaid that came across as a show designed in a boardroom and don't get me started on Newsies a musical about a paper-boys that didn't get enough money (wow) the choreography was excellent though(I might get barred by Michael here,our new moderator).
Then in Toronto 2 years ago I saw Aladdin and expected to see a hot mess, the show just blew me away, I said at the time that James Monroe Iglehart would win the Tony and he did just that. Then last year I saw it again on Broadway (one of those Sunday night shows, where Broadway is lean) and boy didn't Disney improve an already excellent show. London is in for a treat.
This is the show that everyone has been waiting for since Disney did The Lion King.

I don't get why everyone loves it.. I thought it was tacky and the humour was so basic throughout. Plus a lead who couldn't sing to save her life.
This being said- surely London will be an improvement.

I must admit that I'm tempted  No, seriously, everyone's entitled to their opinion, as wrong as they can be and don't you think that this board was boring if everyone had the same opinion? I love everything about Newsies and a transfer would so make my day - there aren't many shows for which I'd fly to the US (more or less) solely to see them, but Newsies is one of them (Washington and St. Louis so far, and San Diego upcoming). I don't get why everyone loves it.. I thought it was tacky and the humour was so basic throughout. Plus a lead who couldn't sing to save her life. This being said- surely London will be an improvement. I must admit I'm a bit biased, as I'm a big Alan Menken fan, but Aladdin has one of the best scores around. As I said before, Proud of your boy is one of my all-time favourite (musical theatre) songs. When I saw Aladdin on Broadway (twice so far, and I'm booked for a third time in March), I found the show pure magic, and the magic carpet ride was breathtaking. Maybe I'm easily impressionable, but it really wowed me. I do agree about Courtney Reed though. Found her voice really breathy and thin, but she had an amazing chemistry with Adam Jacobs, so her casting was sort of OK for me. Aladdin may very well become my new guilty pleasure. |

I think it's great that you love and passionate about Newsies and might joke with someone about liking something I don't, but I would never criticise someone decision or be nasty about someone's passion. I understand it and get it why someone loves a certain show. Christ, so many people think I am weird because I love my theatre.....period. But then again that's there problem and not mine.  Yet then there are those who think Thriller Live is the best thing ever created |

So looking forward to seeing this in June....I actually remember a family outing when come up town to London (when I was a lad I lived in the burbs) and went to see 'Aladdin' at Odeon Leicester Square and they had a pre-show (I recall 'Prince Ali') on the stage there before the movie...was magical being a wee kid and we went to DisneyWorld Florida around that time and 'Aladdin' was the main movie at the time so be waiting over 20 years to see this on the stage!!

So, was at the press launch last night.
What can I say? This seriously looks terrific.
Jade Ewen and Dean John-Wilson duetted on "A Whole New World" and the chemistry between them is already there - and rehearsals haven't even started yet.
DJW also gave us "Proud of Your Boy," dealt with an unexpected change of lighting angle without flinching and showed that he has the fullest voice out there.
Trevor Dion Nicholas wrapped it up with a personally tailored "Friend Like Me" in a "Blues" style. Different and full of something very special.
We also saw a short clip of the Broadway carpet flight - and it's unlike any magic effect I've ever seen. If it gets this cynic gasping, it must be good.
The statistics on the show are amazing - 370 costumes and 108 costume changes in a minute, for example, and they are sparing nothing for London. TDN is even bringing his whole family to live here for his run, dedication.
Hopefully they'll release video and photos later today, too, but all I can say is, those who got those early-run tickets at great prices could well be patting themselves on the back about now.
Annoyingly, no video, but a full report and studio shot publicity photos now on my blog at bit.ly/1nxyYjw if anyone is interested.

Were any other cast announced at the event? I notice Ethan Le Phong of Miss Siagon has it on his twitter now he's part of the cast. Wonder who he will play? Understudy Aladdin?

I think the magic of this material is the animation. Fluid movements and magical animation. Disney musicals on stage always fall flat to me. Like a cheap costume party.
Ariel going from left to right on stage on rollerskates with her tail dangling between her legs like a dead beaver, people dressed up as spoon and fork in Beauty and the Beast, a 7 minute (street)dancebreak of people dressed up as hyena's in the Lion King still makes me shiver.
