I saw From Here to Eternity and cannot place him. Can you please tell me who he played. I know it was not Pruitt or Maggio and they are really the only characters I can remember (aside from the Sgt.)

So Dominic Cavendish thinks this is worse than Motown, like he did with Kinky Boots. The block is a blackguard and a idiot, he never get close to his predessosor Charles.

Was Tim Rice spotted on the purple carpet? He has taken to being out with his granddaughter most recently.

And only 2 stars from The Metro - "without Trevor Dion Nicholas's wish-granting lamp-dweller we'd all be wishing we could leave". Bit harsh I'd say!

Must be a jaded lot. I'm in a total minority, then, with a 6 star rave for the whole thing. It looks AMAZING, the story hangs together properly, there's some great songs and better dance, some costumes and cast members mallardo would approve of. It has the lot, for me. If a certain show about chocolate had half the same thought, time and cash spent on it, it would still be running... 'Aladdin' is everything I'd hoped that would have been. I'm seeing Aladdin and Charlie, for the first time in each case, on the same day in early July - will be interesting to compare the two!

Was at the main event last night. Lots of glitz. Great hanging about on the balcony with a G&T people watching as they strolled along the (in this case) purple carpet.
The show. Well, Disney does spectacle and this was spectacle. I loved the design – the overwhelming colours, wonderful sets, choreography and appearances (and disappearances) of the genie. And, of course, the magic carpet – seriously impressive.
Trevor Dion Nicholas as the genie was also excellent.
Now for the negatives. The story is simply Disney schmaltz. I really could not engage with it. A fairly tale without any bite. As a result the songs (apart from Friend Life Me) did not grab either.
So, I middle of the road on this one. If I were to take a child to a musical I would put this right up on my list. An adult, maybe not (obviously depends on their taste!).

See I think the show has the great balance of entertaining for children but also for adults (clever Disney jokes that fly over the heads of the little dears).
I am clearly a target audience for them (in the fact I don't need to be directly marketing at) Being in my 30's I was a kid when 'Aladdin' came out so you have a huge audience there in itself they will go to relive their youth!
Not surprised with the range of critics star ratings and reviews, it's going to necessary appeal to certain reviewers but the show is high quality and I would say both regular theater goers and causal (the 1 or two type) will be satisfied by the wonderful staging, the songs and that 'Disney magic' that it will attract repeat visitors and a huge fan base - For me to was 4* and is a brilliant addition for the West-End and see it having a healthy at lest 2-3 year run.

Yes, very popular with sheltered children and adults with arrested development, so most of the population really. A hit!

I enjoyed it. It's not as clever as Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, but I was entertained.
Even though I know how the carpet is done, I was still stunned!
Trevor is a star. Friend Like Me is a true showstopper!

I think by making it a musical comedy rather than a carbon copy of the film, they made it work for the stage.

Surprised this didn't get a couple of 5 stars TBH. It blew me away all 3 times I saw it.
Surprised this didn't get reviewed by The Sun and The Mirror.

To be honest I don't think those reviewers saw the show. It's a 5 star show. 1 for Dean John Wilson's arms, another 1 for each of his pecs, 1 for his peachy behind and a final 1 for his all-round lovely Dean John Wilson-ness.

Interval thoughts. Very 'Broadway' but trying to shoehorn in loads of UK references. Aladdin himself is a bit flat! Genie is fun. Friend Like Me is spectacular. The baddies look like Paul Daniels and Teller. And I want great magic, so waiting for that carpet

I loved this, already planning a trip when the hype dies down (my ticket was free) and Friend like Me and Trevor's performance made me grin from ear to ear. Just a fun show, safe but fun.

So I was in for the matinee today - all round it is a great production.
There are some standout moments as already mentioned by others but the Genie holds it all together and Trevor Dion Nicholas is outstanding! He plays it with American whit, sass and just the right amount of camp to not make it descend too much into panto!
Dean John-Wilson was a good Aladdin and Jade Ewan as Jasmine, both were fine but just didn't stand out enough against the Genie.
I agree about the unbalance of the set, the cave scene particularly is great and then just a dropped curtain for the palace scenes seemed lazy, surely there's something more impressive they could have done - I mean they make a carpet fly for crying out loud!!
I was sat in row X of the stalls and could see how they did the carpet btw....
First ever musical I've been to with audience participation encouraged which was unique for me - you don't get that in Les Mis or Wicked!
It will make a killing, House Full sign out when we arrived and it's such a family fun show. I would go back and see it, keen to see an u/s Genie and see how a Brit takes on the role compared to TDN, that's surely worthy of an Olivier nomination?!
