Really pleased to read that Kneehigh's superb version of Brief Encounter is to play at Birmingham Rep next year, hopefully will lead to a tour or possible London transfer, loved it when it was in the West End too many years ago now...

So glad to hear this - wasn't the Birmingham Rep where it was first staged (and subsequently altered ALOT for future tours/west end) or am i thinking of another Kneehigh show?

After seeing romantics anonymous I would really like to see more Emma rice but maybe I am being really stupid but the tweet says empire theatre haymarket. Is this the same as the theatre royal haymarket or a completely different one?

I directed this last year for an amateur company, and however good and imaginative we were, we were deafened each night by the cries of 'it's not like the film...'. No m'dears it is not. Trevor Howard, sadly, cannot be with us. And yes, we are in colour and stood right in front of you.

The film is my favourite film of all time but I missed the stage version last time around.
Suspect that I will have to cast aside my dislike of Rice for one night...

A fairly well-received and even more fondly-remembered ten year old production. With so much theatre being blink-and-you-miss-it ephemeral, it's nice to have a second chance to see something you've been kicking yourself over missing.  |

If it helps anyone: Just used "Friends" booking and found that the front row is only £20. I recall from last time it was a very high stage, but I don't think you can go wrong at that price. Top tip thanks Monkey |
