A one-woman show chronicling the life of Ella, a woman who adpots her dead husband's identity to carry on working in Nazi Germany and is cuaght up by the events of the Second World War and beyond. The play is by Manfred Karge in a new adaptation by Alexandra Wood.
Interesting from a techincal point of view, with good use of projections and other effects, the whole weight falls on the shoulders of the single protagonist played here by Maggie Bain. She does a tremendous job of keeping the piece flowing and capturing the audience's interest but ultimately - not uncommon with single performer pieces - there is too much telling and not enough showing and once the great transformation has happened, and it happens very early on, the rest of the play is diminishing returns.
