A couple of questions for those who are familiar with the play/production.
Is this the same production that was staged at The National a couple of years ago? I'm a bit confused since it looks like a transfer from Newcastle or elsewhere in UK (was it on tour after NT run or is it a completely new one?) I'm thinking of seeing it solely because of Stephen Tompsinson who I have a soft spot for (a lifelong BallyK fan and love-love his other stuff over the years), the thing I'd like to understand - is it worth it? How good is the play? I know it's always a matter of opinion, but I can do with a thought or two
I would give it a chance anyway but I gotta choose between 9 productions this fall (the harderst part each time!) and somehow fit them into a 4-5 days trip..
To moderators: I created a new thread since I wasn't sure whether this needs to go to the original NT's The Red Lion thread which is now probably long gone and dead. If it does could please merge?

This is the Live Theatre Newcastle production which was re-worked slightly to make it more Northern. I didn't see it because it annoyed me that a theatre that's supposed to be producing new local writing is just re-mounting work that was on the previous year in London but it did sell out and get decent reviews.

I liked the NT version but wouldn't be in a rush to see it again, and to be honest I think Daniel Mays is in a different league (no pun intended) to Stephen Tomkinson.

Thanks for your opinion, guys! It's odd it transfers if it didn't sell well and got decent reviews.. I do love football and Nothern accents though.

Being 'more Northern' makes everything better, in my experience!!

I enjoyed it. It was a very good new play which is worth watching. Must admit Daniel Mays was brilliant and can't see Tompkinson being able to match it but a good play is a good play.

Has anyone here seen this yet? I can't decide whether to book or not.
