Have been playing some old CDs and come across some real favourites- the ones I play more than any others...
Top of the list is The Stephen Schwartz Album from 1999. The sort of recording that has a lot of time, effort, and probably money spent on it, with lush orchestrations and top performances. Guy Haines' Corner of the Sky is just magical, as is Kristin Chenoweth's Lion Tamer, Marin Mazzie's With You/Gifts of Love and Emily Skinner's Chanson.
Another one is The Maury Yeston Songbook from 2003. Many of the inclusions were new songs to me, from December Songs, Phantom and Titanic... Again, beautifully sung (Betty Buckley, Brian D'Arcy James, Alice Ripley, Christine Ebersole...) and perfectly recorded.
Any recommendations?
