No it's not a wild speculation that this could go to the Noel Coward actually. Mark Shenton tweeted a few weeks ago saying that this is going to the Noel Coward in September so it is more a rumour than a wild speculation actually. Just nothing has been officially confirmed yet. This is why people think it is going to the NC in September hence why we are surprised nothing has been confirmed yet... So, he was right with the Where but way out with the When. |

I guess a 3-matinee and 5-evening (Tue to Sat) weekly schedule. Matinees probably Wed, Thu, Sat. But possibly Wed, Sat, Sun. Repeat Warning - Guessing game! Not a rumour! |

I believe their matinee day in Chichester was Wednesday, but this won't necessarily carry over to the West End run. Tickets go on sale tomorrow though, so you won't have to wait long to find out! What's the height of the stage and will the programme feature a song list? The programme at CFT featured a song list - as for stage height, you'll have to wait until it opens to find out. Possible staging spoiler: {Spoiler - click to view}If they want to install revolves like they had in Chichester, that might bump up the stage height. Can someone who knows more about that sort of thing clarify? |

At the Nöel Coward? According to the august body known as TheatreMonkey.com, there is no current show at the Nöel Coward. And I don't know if there's time to bring in and market a different show and have a decent run before kicking it out for the end of October, so I guess it's just going to stay dark for a few weeks.

O.k. Thanks I thought that magician show was just playing and they we going to extend that.
So very strange if a filer show doesn't go in there, but I agree I me is limited. Very uncanny of Cameron Mackintosh, thought he would announce this transfer after Chichester press night, for a September commencement. Perhaps they wanted to give the show the best possible start with the Christmas crowd?

I think it'll do pretty well as long as they can spread the word, in my opinion it's a stellar production but people may be reluctant to see it if they don't know what it is, so that's their main hurdle to get past.

I think this will sell reasonably well, well known British musical, people go because of the Chichester connection and their high production values, 2 leads that got raves, very positive reviews from Chichester - also it is an upbeat fun musical that doesn't take itself seriously.

The funny thing is that, even though I absolutely know beyond doubt from detailed reviews that it's an offensive pile of steaming rubbish, I'd actually be tempted to see it and might well book in a moment of weakness if I lived within easy reach. Luckily, I don't.

I'm sorry but with those ticket prices this will bomb. It isn't as good as Mrs Henderson or Showboat and look what happened to them! It will do better on tour. Provinces haven't seen this show in years. Still despite issues with the book, sexist story, gay photographer I'm pleased it is transferring. I wish them well. I wonder if they will record a CD? |

Nothing wrong with a gay photographer in theory, but if in practise the character is a mass of cringey stereotypes, then that's a problem. (I'm just guessing, I've not seen it, but it's not like theatre's never played up a stereotype for cheap laughs before.)

The photographer is played incredibly camp, purely for laughs, in one scene only. I don't mean to speak for the entire LGBT population, but as a gay man I had absolutely no issue with it, in fact I was almost distracted from the rest of the number because I was laughing so much. Yes it's a stereotype, yes it's done purely for comedic effect, but I don't believe the creative team meant any animosity at all by putting it in. I think the fact that it's put in purely for comedic effect is the reason I'm ok with it - I'm confident that the creative team didn't intend for it to make any sort of political point or be representative of any group of people. It would be an entirely different situation if this was a fully fleshed-out character who was meant to play the 'overly camp gay man' stereotype seriously.
I know many people will disagree with me, but that's my two cents for what it's worth.

The gay photographer was SO gay I found it offensive. It was a totally unnecessary (;and jarring) moment
This whole production is a mess and they were lucky they got away with it (the decent reviews)
And Emma Williams is wasted in this show.

I never really get offended with gay being overplayed etc in shows, and I identify as gay unless alcohol is involved, then I am very much a lover of the people kind of person... I don't really know how to word that better.  |
