Interesting that they're having two actors play the young and old version of the lead role. On Broadway it was all played by Norbert Leo Butz.

Saw this on Broadway and it didn't give me a big smile. Norbet Leo Butz did though.
But still glad this is coming to the UK, unsure how they will do one of the effects at the Other Place, you need a orchestra pit to do this.
Thought the Other Place was about British musicals, have they done one yet?
All for my misgivings love this announcement.

I've just seen that Baz replied to someone on twitter who was criticising the show, and he says 'it's been gutted' so clearly there's been some heavy re-working going on.

Have to say I wasn't a fan at all when I saw it, although I only went to see Norbert in something and didn't really have a lot of interest in the plot. This was only worsened by the fact that it was a preview (so already very long) AND Norbert stopped the show because the floor was too slippery which paused it for about 20 minutes. There's a very moving moment at the end, but by that point I was just incredibly bored.

Thought the Other Place was about British musicals, have they done one yet? I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe I saw an interview with Paul Taylor-Mills where he described how his plan was to open the venue with established shows so that they could make a name for the venue and support their developmental projects (e.g. The work in progress stuff that's happening in the studio). That way they build up a reputation and get a bit of a financial buffer before they start producing more risky shows, for example brand new British musicals. |

I understand Big Fish is hoping to make a big splash on this side of the pond in the next year. My post in the West End rumours thread over a month ago (can be found on page 49 of that thread). Just call me Mr Ahead of the Game. Not sure I could watch this musical, having lost my father as a teenager the film left me an emotional wreck. |

YES! How I am going to squish this in is anyone's guess, but I've been curious about this show for so long.
Somehow I have a sense that Broadway shows either transfer quickly as big West End productions or they take some years to transfer and then appear in much smaller houses. It's strange. For example I thought that "Once" (and years ago Spring Awakening) would have done much much better in a small intimate setting (such as indeed the Other Palace) whereas "Big Fish" is one that should be done on a bigger scale.

Saw this at Arts Ed last year and thought it worked very well. Performed in their drama studio, transverse style. Found the first act had some very good songs but was nothing special, but the drama towards the end of the show was gripping and emotional. I'm sure this was helped by the intimate space. |

Interesting how they're doing previews during November, then having a month off performances before recommencing a month later. I guess that means they're really committed to completely overhauling it! Less interesting is how the lowest price tickets are £27.50 for November previews, then £32 and £35 for December. If that's the *lowest*, they'd better put some leg room in at the front 'cos that's far too much money to sit in horrendous discomfort. Be interesting to see how ticket sales go!

Does anyone know how to get priority booking? Don't know if it helps you but just had a priority booking email from Atg for card holders. I've not listened to the show but loved the film, and that's a great cast. Guess i'm going to have to break my pledge to not arrange any more London trips this year :/ Looking at the ATG ticket prices it seems they wont be doing the £5 / £10 cheapies that they've done for previous shows  |
