Libby Purves (Theatrecat) has given this 4 stars & it's been on my radar but I need a few more views before booking, as I begin to suspect that LP is generally too generous.

I saw it last week and really enjoyed it. A teeny bit shaky here and there but no more than expected from an early preview.
The cocktails at the SP bar have really come on. I had a damn good cosmopolitan.

Well. I was emotionally drained. And freezing cold. Has no-one at the Southwark Playhouse heard of a heater?
What a cracking little play. I like the way that it leaves everything up in the air. I want to like Father Flynn but then I do wonder about him. I want to dislike nasty old Sister Aloysius but then I wonder if she's right. I like Sister James and I wonder if she needs a hug. Where did Mrs Muller get that hat? Questions, questions, questions. I have so many doubts. Oh I get it . . .
Lovely set, nice stained glass floor (although some of the lighting at times made me wonder if we were going to head into Exorcist territory) and a terrific cast. Shame there were only about 30 people there last night though.

I will be seeing it; just haven't booked yet. The short running time means it's ideal for an evening slot; just not when the Northern Line is shut for weekend engineering work.

Shame there were only about 30 people there last night though. I'm sorry to hear that, it deserves a bigger audience. I agree with all your comments, except about the temperature. |

Saw it on Tuesday evening, similarly sparse audience, cast gave it their all, deserves to be seen by more people.
Agree with Ryan a cracking little play, twists and turns playing with your certainty, at the end if I was in a jury would not like to commit to a verdict.

What has happened to Southwark? Kiki's Delivery Service last summer was near full but this year (from anecdotes) it wasn't selling well. This should have at least played on the connection to the film in publicity, do they have any publicity?

There is NO marketing, is there? I went tonight, it was less than half full. SUCH a shame as it's a great great play. I've never fathomed why it didn't turn up in the West End, with those 4 killer roles in it, it's a casting director's dream.
The cast in this production are all great, especially Gonet, but they must all be very dispirited by the terrible attendance.

Indeed, and I don't even think it's papering, which does happen with some Southwark Playhouse productions - but maybe that depends on the producers?
