I want to see it to say I've seen more Andrew Lloyd Webber shows. I have little to no interest in this show otherwise.
The Charing Cross Theatre needs to make sure it's on TodayTix. I'm sure The Braille Legacy would've done better if it had been.

A "thriller" would not be how I remember the original production. But think this would suit a chamber revisioning and Southerland's l"ots of smoke and good lighting" style of directing. Praying they've done work on the book and orchestrations, thought.

Good news! I remember being mildly bored by the original version at the Palace Theatre but I'm happy to give it another try. The original version was one of the first to work a lot with projections and most of those were dire and failed to create a gothic atmosphere. I think no one who was there could forget the ludicrous moment when they mimed going up non-existant stairs.

I can't help but think that Baz has missed a trick here - he should have tweeted "I have a secret!" And then repeated it 50 or so times before finally telling us what it is.

Remember seeing this with Maria Friedman and Michael Ball at The Palace. Will be good to revisit the show again.

I assume this is a reference to the show that I'm not understanding, but that is basically how he did the Hamilton casting announcement (except he teased everyone for so long that the news had already slipped out via other methods by the time he "graciously" decided to put everyone out of their misery). |

When I saw the overblown production at the Palace Theatre I thought that it would work much better as a small "chamber" musical as there is very little ensemble work and is character based on a few principle roles. The staging was terrible with dizzying projections which were awful. Who will ever forget some of the cast "running" up a staircase on the spot!
It certainly isn't a thriller though......

I believe this is easily ALW's worst show. Dull, repetitive score. Frustratingly boring story. Dreadfully awful lyrics. I hated it at the Palace.
Just booked for the new production.
Praying for a miracle! lol

Praying for a miracle! lol I agree. I am a huge ALW fan but in relative terms I also think this is easily his worst show. Musically there are some lovely melodies but the filling sections which execute plot between the main 'songs' I think contain some very unremarkable and even boring music (and as a big fan of the sung through musical I usually love these parts). Complete contrast to Aspects of Love which structure wise is also a holistic piece with few stand out verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus songs but is musically gorgeous in it's entirety (IMHO). Anyway, I love it when shows are revisited and I think there was enough good in the original to work with and I'll be fascinated to see this new version. I also think it's excellent that ALW said he's completed the new version and will now be handing that over to the director to let it become their vision. Personally I think he should do this more. Of course writers have visions for their shows but 'too many cooks' is never good (and certainly Love Never Dies suffered from this) Interesting that this hasn't gone to The Other Palace - an obvious choice for trial of a redeveloped version? (Or do shows have to be actually new to be done there?) |

I guess fundamentally will still be the same musical. Guess the only radical re-contsruction he's ever done was By Jeeves. (Off topic but annoyingly I never saw The Boys In The Photograph (shame as I love The Beautiful Game). Think the removal of my fave song Our Kind of Love would have been a shame though. I'd have kept it AND had it in LND as know it was originally written for Phantom 2, though no doubt he would have got stick for that!) |

Aw jeez, the running up the stairs projection was so daft - giggle worthy. But the projection of the train was fabulous from my stalls seat.

Well I liked the score - it was the rest of it that didn't quite hit the spot. It still contains my all time favourite comment from the audience.
As the titular character appears at the end of the first half to once more sing about "having a secret" the man sat behind me said "just fecking say it and we can all go home"

Will def book this one...luckily it is end of the year! I almost had to wring my shirt out at interval at Yank! on Wednesday night- something has to be done in there (industrial fans to cool it down pre-show?) Excited to add another ALW to my collection!  |

I've never seen the original LED version at the Palace, so I'm pleased this is coming.
It also fits perfectly well with my Hamilton premier and Amber's last Dreamgirls!
Laura looks practically identical to Lisa Brescia who contentiously went on for Maria Friedman on Broadway when Maria was diagnosed.
