Oh yeh.... then we get on board and you disappear with some "theatrical" type for the duration like Alison Steadman in Shirley Valentine! I don't think so! Anyway I like my own room on holiday. Keeps the options open!  Excuse moi ! I'm the one likely to be left talking to the rock...... But the idea of Theatreboard cruises appeals. We could start small maybe hire the Mersey Ferry with a medley from "Blood Brothers". There's enough of us to play the roles. |

That looks ... exciting. I'm not entirely sure it was a sensible idea to take something that by its very nature is not going to remain horizontal and then design rooms with long open stretches and smooth floors and pack those rooms with things that slide.
Also, I can't begin to describe my dislike of people who think you want to listen to their choice of music when watching a video. It's like a website from the 1990s.

I have been on 10 cruises I think and you really cant beat them for a great holiday. As a theatre lover one of the reasons we go is for the entertainment and the nightly theatre shows. Some of the theatres onboard would give some west end theatres a run for their money. Particularly the theatre onboard Cunards Queen Victoria. As for the catering the meals in the restaurants you would find hard to beat. No I don't work for a cruise company!!And on the bigger ships that we go on you don't feel cooped up as there are so many venues. Anyway that's my say on cruises from someone who has actually been on some!!

The only cruise I ever went on was with Royal Caribbean, the entertainment was incredibly disappointing, no star names at all, and very few acts all told . Names like these would have been very welcome .

I'm totally with you on this - all my friends cruise now despite all their excuses in the past about old people, being cooped up, the cost etc etc. I'm just off one and one night after the main show the cruise director announced that in the theatre in the morning there would be an audience with Steven Schwartz! I nearly choked on my Pimms! What? So I got up early - it was an 0330 session in the piano bar the prior evening with a lovely young chap tinkling the ivories belting out Shirley Bassey choones and the like! Went to the theatre and spent a lovely hour listening to him talk about his life and he played a couple of tunes of his I didn't actually know, but loved! He was in the said piano bar that evening too with his entourage - he was actually on holiday, so if it's good enough for Lord Steven then good enough for anybody! I'm booked on this too with about a dozen friends - it is a tad expensive but that's a lot of decent acts to pay I suppose. Really looking forward to it, and you are quite right, the FOD's will be out in force but I can't think of better cruise mates to be honest. Come along! Great time guaranteed - despite some dodgy reviews you might read on the ship, I've stopped reading cruise reviews, I've never had a bad one.

A colleague went on her first cruise last year. "Splendour of the Norwegian Fjords" or something. She said the Fjords were indeed splendid, sadly the same couldn't be said for the passengers. Mealtimes were a sight to behold apparently. I'll leave it to your imagination. She said she'd only ever go on another cruise if she was going to pay top whack and get exclusive access to certain parts of the ship, dedicated restaurants, lounges and bars etc. The class system is alive and kicking in the world of cruising. Basically it's Titanic all over again. Dreadfully snobby I know but I'm with her on it. I don't wanna hang out with a load of people behaving like they've never seen a buffet before in their lives. I certainly agree cruising is about class, apparently on a cruise the higher up your cabin is the better class you are are and more affluent part of society, this is based that the crew sleep on the bottom, so the further away from them the better, I am obnoxious enough to want to sleep on the bottom based on this theory!!! Also on board the shipping company are always trying to get you to spend money, like enter tonight's lottery, have your picture taken, this is after you have been herded up to be on the ship by 6pm, so you spend money on there extortionate alcohol, which they pay no duty on, for me a destination comes alive at night time. I would hate all the queue also on board to get your evening meal, especially with raucous behaviour as highlighted on here and feels like some sort of Benidorm on the sea and don't ever ever get me started about that grear invitation to sit at the captain's table, how tacky and gaudy. I was reading the itinerary of a round the world cruise, 5 days at sea I would be bored out of my head, by the second day and would end up jettison myself overboard. |

I have to disagree with comments made by those who obviously have not been on a cruise. I have been on at least 10 with 7 different companies. Most of what has been written is not true , in my experience anyway. The captains table does not really happen anymore. It is just such a good way of seeing different places and it is up to you what you get involved in. I have always been impressed by the music and theatre on board and I am sure anyone who has booked on the musical theatre cruise will have a great time. I have already booked 2 cruises for nest year so wont be able to go on this one.
