Now here's one to tick off the list!! Tim McArthur directs the first revival of long-forgotten 1989 musical Metropolis that starred Judy Kuhn & Brian Blessed once upon a time! Wikipedia tells me that the 1927 film is set in the futuristic year of 2026(!!) and the musical around the year 2000(!!!!). Runs 10th - 29th October 2017.

What's the theatre like? Will be it be "three people in jeans and a piano" affair?
I'd be interested but I'm a bit wary of VERY small fringe productions.

Southwark Playhouse managed 'Grand' Hotel with almost no set or staging, so I'm sure it can be done. Their staging of Grand Hotel was a big mess IMO. The traverse stage was a bad idea. Unless you were sat dead centre, the view was only really of one end. The Landor theatre had 20 people on their stage for Ragtime so anything can be done in a small space. |

I've seen good stuff at this venue but it's just too far from everything else to go often. I know it's on the Victoria line but it's a bit of a walk from the station and if you're rushing from one venue to another, a detour to Walthamstow is very costly in time terms. Most comparable venues are far closer to central London; plus many are near other theatres or cinemas, so it's easier to plan several things reasonably near each other.
I do wonder how much better this company would fare if they were able to move to a new home just slightly closer to the rest of the action.

Love both the original Fritz Lang movie and the weird anime "remake", two completely different yet awesome movies. Have the cast recording of this too, going to give it a listen today. Will definitely end up seeing this!!!

The news of Metropolis has got me very excited to see it again. There's only a few videos of the Piccadilly production out there. I like this song, Listen To Me. Its made all the better by Graham Bickleys TERRIBLE wig. At least i hope its a wig.....

I so loved the original production for so many reasons - Brian Blessed exploding on stage is an unforgotten memory, but the score is generally tremendous, and there was the spectacle. I'd love to see this version.

My nephew is in the chorus for this. I'm gutted that I can't get down to London to see it, but I'm ever so proud of him!

Saw this last Sunday and loved it. Simple but effective staging, and beautifully sung by everyone. I love the soaring score and anthemic songs.

Well I thought this was just great. An odd show but what fabulous staging and very clever to put such a huge musical on such a tiny space. Some real up and coming talent there. Really worth going to see guys. - some of the songs (and cast) are gorgeous!
