Got lucky in the ballot for Network Foodwork/onstage seats.
Table seats inc meals are £95 and bar stool seats are £75, both prices include a set menu, meat or vegetarian. No single seats are available, only a pair of tickets.
I rang to ask about stage accessibility because I've had a knee op and was told it's fine, it's still in rehearsal/work in progress as far as design is concerned.
Tickets won't be issued for people on stage, we will get an email about what to do in advance,and we have to take photo ID with us when we go to the NT (like Angels in America the box office said?)
Looks like it's pretty booked up until about February.
I don't have any membership of the NT (gave up when it got so expensive!) but am on their mailing list and so got an email asking if we wanted to enter the ballot for tickets.

This is presumably intended as a way of bringing the themes of the film to the way that technology's used in the modern day. But I can't help but feel it can't really work as intended. I imagine this being used to show how Howard Beale/Bryan Cranston's catchphrase goes viral, like in some sort of television collage. But while getting genuine public videos is a neat semi-meta idea, I'd guess that the selection bias of people who get (and care about) tweets from the National Theatre is going to reduce the impact of a collage of images. edit: I hope I'm wrong, but in my mind this will end up as a split between middle class Londoners, and drama students, rather than a representation of the masses. |

I'm sure the NT can source some additional videos if the initial Twitter trawl doesn't deliver the required diversity. The NT don't guarantee to use every video submitted, so I'm sure they can reach out to regional theatres, schools, etc to get a wider mix if they need one -perhaps using the connections built through "We're Here Because We're Here". This strikes me as mostly a publicity exercise - when people submit a video, it will be seen in their follower's timelines, so I'm sure they're hoping this goes viral.

This production is beginning to sound as gimmicky as hell. First eating on stage, now punters sending in videos of themselves. What other tricks does Van Hove have up his sleeve? I hope I'm wrong but it's beginning to sound a bit style over substance. Fingers crossed they'll not all be jogging on the spot non stop when the diners are tucking into their starters.

I don't mind gimmicks, 'cos they're not automatically an indicator of quality, but if early word of mouth comes back that they've got a treadmill on the stage, I'm returning my ticket no questions asked.

I haven't seen in posted here but when Bryan Cranston was on The Graham Norton Show on Friday he explained more about how the eating is going to work: there is going to be a prolonged scene that takes place in a restaurant so essentially the background artists that are also eating in the restaurant will be audience members. Cranston said it will be quite surreal for those guests as they will literally be only a few feet away from him while he's giving his performance. Graham made jokes that there had better not be any slow eaters and how it sounds as if it could very easily go wrong - he's right!

Sometimg similar happened in the Matthew Warchus RSC “Winters Tale” at the Roundhouse. In the first scene we sat at tables as if in a nightclub, we got drinks I think, the action went on around us. Yes, it's quite something. Ambitious! Needs tightening up a bit - but that's what previews are for. Not sure that the on-stage diners added much (apart from helping to fill the Littelton stage) and I suspect the multimedia will be a bit marmite. But it certainly got an enthusiastic response and I was gripped despite feeling very under the weather tonight.
