I live far far away from New York City and am wondering which play should I see. Unfortunately, the time frame when one opens one will be closed. So I will be unable to see both. I really love Mark Rylance so Farinelli and the King sound amazing. As does Harry Potter and the cursed Child. Big Harry Potter fan. And a big believer in Orginal Casts.

Farinelli is lovely, and Rylance is as charming as always, but rather slight. Potter is a more spectacular piece of theatre.
So it kind of depends what you like more.

As Potter tickets are likely to be in demand, why not try for those and if you don't go for the other? It's a good play and obviously Rylance is a dream but it's not the greatest play ever written by any stretch. Potter is more of an 'event' and seeing the original Broadway cast I agree would likely make a good theatre memory.

I think Cursed Child is a better piece of theatre, but it won't live or die by its casting (whether original or fifteenth replacement) and it will be around a lot longer than Farinelli. If you're thinking about seeing Cursed Child because you feel you should rather than because you're genuinely enthused about it, then I wouldn't necessarily prioritise it.
Actually you could let fate decide; wait for Cursed Child to go on sale, see if you manage to get tickets, and if you don't, then that's the universe's way of saying you should go with Farinelli. Hopefully they'll be on sale soon enough that this could be a valid decision-making technique!

Ohh what different experiences. Can you go another time to NY? I think whilst I loved Cursed Child and it was a big theatre experience if long term you can do both I might be tempted to say see Farinelli and then go back to cursed child as it will run for years. I was bothered about seeing the first cast too but mostly as I'd seen some of the actors before and liked them, I do think cursed child is much less actor specific whereas I thought Rylance was the best I'd seen him in Farinelli since Jerusalem.
But equally I quite like baemax's try for a cursed child ticket and see how you go, not getting a ticket often tells you how much you really wanted it.

Harry Potter will be around for years and isnt cast dependent, Arinelli has its cast as its selling point and is a limited run

Farinelli and the King is a very average play, I certainly wouldn't make a big effort to see it. Written by Rylance's wife and without that connection I would have to doubt that it would have made it to the West End let alone Broadway.
