Why on earth isn’t this just a proper musical with new songs written for it? Such a wasted opportunity. Can’t believe they have so desperately gone down the will Young route. What will happen when he leaves? Just some random guy singing all the songs to a bemused audiences. There were some original songs in the version of the show that played in Leeds last year, as well as the (expected) collection of familiar pop hits. The original songs were atrocious. Yes, all of them. That said, it didn't need to be transformed into a play-with-music vehicle for Will Young. It needed a good new score, and original songs all the way through instead of a half-and-half mixture of new and old music. There was a lot of good in the show - the staging and choreography were excellent, and so were most of the performers. It was fixable, but I don't think this is the way to fix it... not that I'll be seeing it again, because having suffered through Will Young's performance in 'Cabaret' I'm basically allergic to him now.

Did they manage to work in Will Young's hit songs as well, or is it just cover versions?

Oh dear, I’m glad I haven’t forked out for this. Despite liking Mr Young if I wanted a Will Young show I’d go to his concerts. However having done that many a time I know how erm vocal his fans can be...probably give this one a wide berth. A shame as I adore the film.

Will woe is me young does nothing for me at all. cant even begin to express my disappointment. The trouble is, you go to another show and you don't like someone's singing voice, you get to hear a lot of other cast members sing. In this one, if you're not enjoying how Will sings, you're screwed. That's not to mention that he's just in the way all of the time, even touching the dancers as they are dancing. For me it just doesn't work at all.

The problem is, you build a show around one singer, what happens when they are out of the show? Yes there will be an understudy but I'm not quite sure they've thought this through. How long is Will Young contracted for?

Regretting booking for this... Did so some time back on the strength of some positive reviews on here when it was in Leeds, waaay before Will Young was written into it. Trouble is, now I’ve bought the tickets it’s too late to leave right now...

Oh dear. This is really not what I was expecting at all. Although I’m going with a friend and his friend, whose only knowledge of music really is whatever tracks happen to make the generic “I Love The 80s” supermarket compilations, so he should love it.

One woman was telling me she was here with a group from his online fan club. Literally bursting with excitement whenever he so much as moved. And beforehand when one group picked up their tickets at the box office the creaming lasted a couple of minutes.

please tell me they still have that wonderful spanish flamenco number that closes act 1. Time after time sung by the two leads when they were dancing was so lovely in Leeds. Just found the whole show to be magical and i really liked the original songs. I will still see it but feel so deflated.

*Arrives armour plated*
Ach. You lot make me laugh. You don't complain (well ok, you do, but not as vociferously as this) at having purchased Chess tickets and they stick in Mickey Ball and here they put in someone *readjusts armour* with a far superior voice and you're all up in arms!
Well I was actually in the process of booking when the pipe burst. So there. I'm going. And looking forward to it.
(Hope the costumes didn't get wet.)

We didn't get that far, just approaching the close of act one when Kiki was told to walk straight off the stage and Will was left on and his mike turned off (at last).

For me, it's not even his voice, it's what he's doing there. He's in the way most of the time, actually touching the dancers while they are dancing. Or he's hopping around while Scott is actually dancing. It's just odd at times, especially when he has a dress over his outfit and he's just sitting there in it.

Holding off judgement until I see the acutal thing (hopefully with a discount), but that song list looks a complete mess.

I was planning to go but if Will Young is singing every single song then I won't bother. What a waste of all the theatrical talent onstage if you don't let them sing!

And beforehand when one group picked up their tickets at the box office the creaming lasted a couple of minutes. The question now is, was it a typo, or is this what I meant to write? Either way, it's pretty apt.

Oh you funny lot. That song list looks like it could have been any week from 'Strictly Come Dancing'. I rather like Miss Young as it happens so that doesn't bother me. I can imagine the great unwashed will be out in force for his one though so that puts me off more.
I might have to get a box when I go. To look down on them, natch. But also somewhere to store the cattle prod.

So they have great performers like Zizi in the show and won't let her sing?
Who do I complain to?

I wonder if this is why the atmosphere seemed a bit strained when Norton interviewed them on radio last week. WY suddenly interrupted the chat to say how amaaaaaazing it was working with Zizi and Jonny. It sounded a bit false to me, like the magnanimous star being kind to the little people. There was a bit of an awkward moment afterwards when they didn’t seem to know how to react.
If this gets panned I wonder how he’ll react to the criticism?

If this gets panned I wonder how long it will run. This has coach trip written all over it and doesn't exactly scream fangirl from an outside perspective. If people haven't booked already, will they with possible mixed to bad reviews? We shall see.
I'm intrigued by it, and will go for the three leads. I may have to join @ryan in the box though.
