What a bizarre performance if that's meant to promote a musical. Admittedly I gave up halfway through but there was more Will talking over everything than singing. Amd the audience looked bored to tears. There's no way i could stand two hours of that, yet after I'd seen it in Leeds I would have loved to go back again.

Will Young looked like he was on his way to a fetish club.

Regarding my post above, I have now realised that there is a thread on West End Live 2018 in the GENERAL CHAT section so that's where I should be looking for answers to my questions.

I wonder if this will extend past October.

Today Tix do rush tickets for this at 25.00 and have thought about going but after seeing that clip I definitely wont. Indeed the experience may be very different live, but it comes across very poorly on YouTube, to the point where it defeats the object (surely) of promoting the show and selling tickets.

I'd like to throw my two penn'orth in on this one...
I went along to the show with low expectations after the trickle of negative comments on here and after seeing a rather grim promotional video on YouTube. And I agree that this WEL one does absolutely nothing for the show if its aim was to sell it to potential audiences. Half the cast aren't even in costume!
But, I stand by my earlier 'review' of the show: it's fun and feel-good, it looks and sounds great (yes, Will does sound great in the theatre and enters into the spirit of the show, and I'm really not a Will fan) and it's heart-warming too. And for me, that was the best bit...
It's no Les Mis, and no Book of Mormon, it's not Cabaret and certainly not Carousel, but... I know I don't know any of you on this board, but after reading many of your posts for a while now, I reckon I know what presses some of your buttons (because I reckon I might have some similar ones myself!) so I say please give it a chance! If you can get yourself a deal, it'll be a good night out!

Because if so, then I'm afraid that I just couldn't sit through 2.5 hours of that. That alone would stop me from going no matter now much I'd actually quite like to see Zizi Strallen's dancing in this (I would say singing as well but from everything I've read in here she doesn't get to do much of that at all). It's nothing to do with how deep or funny the show is or isn't, but if my ears are going to be tortured with that for several hours then frankly there are a lot of things I'd rather spend my money on!

Does he put on the same terrible Australian accent in the theatre? Yes, he does. I wouldn't really on the WEL clips to have much of an idea of this show (or any other). The sound is terrible and the staging is different.

I went to the matinee today with some trepidation after the negative comments. If you want serious theatre, forget it. If you want a bit of fun, with great dancing, then it's fine (I have to say, I didn't pay full price for a ticket, I had a voucher which I put towards it, that helped!).
Once my eyes were over the shock of Mr Young's attire, I found it quite easy to ignore him and concentrate on where the action really was. I thought the sound was dreadful and it took me a good ten minutes to understand what anyone was saying - those dodgy Aussie accents, I guess! There were groups of super fans in, with a lot of whooping and cheering near the beginning, but they settled down after a while, thank goodness. I have never seen the film, so have no idea how closely (or not) it follows the story of that. However, after that ten minutes I got into it, and enjoyed it. I loved Zizi Strallen and Johnny Labey, there were some very funny performances from other cast members and fabulous paso doble/flamenco from the guy playing Zizi's dad (I didn't get a programme, unfortunately, so no idea who was who).
It was pretty full downstairs, coach parties and the like - and to my surprise a school party of 25 or so girls of around 14-15 I would guess! Not sure how that would fit into the curriculum!

The subject would be "Wildlife in Australia in the 1980s", with a number of strange native creatures now sadly extinct or moved to London!

Whaddya mean dodgy Australian accents? Dodgy as in the show, not dodgy as in real Australians!

Some of the comments on here are personal and nasty, nothing to do with the part itself. Mine was neither a "personal" nor "nasty" comment. It was an objective assessment of reasons given by others. My own opinion is based on the show, the press launch I attended and knowledge of the other performers. As a newcomer to the board, you should re-read our FAQs and be aware that we don't in fact tolerate personal jibes. Think carefully before making accusations if you wish to remain a board member. No thanks, I’d prefer not.

When is Will Young in this until, does anyone know? My mum would really like to see this with him in*and there seems to be rush tickets everyday so I’m in the early stages of planning a trip up to London for her.
*i know he’s not guaranteed to be at any particular performance

Once Will leaves, if they don't get a star to replace, that is when it will be telling what the future of this show will be. Because as much as we make fun, Will has fans trotting out to see this.

Yes, danieljohnson14, some of us here on the Board actually enjoyed the show and even liked Will Young, while making fun of him only gently! But I agree that there is a serious question over the future of the show if and when Will leaves. Has anybody heard any rumours as yet?

I like Will Young alot, no hate here. But I do think, as you have said too, the future will be interesting to see.

To be honest, I really hope this doesn’t run too long because it’s taking up prime real estate. Awful show

I don't know that the Piccadilly is *prime* real estate, it's awfully tucked away...

I don't know that the Piccadilly is *prime* real estate, it's awfully tucked away... I think it's more the aspect of even being slightly tucked away it's a medium sized theatre, in a central location, with one of the underground exits literally right outside the entrance.

No thanks, I’d prefer not. Well let me summarise things for you so you don’t have to. Criticism of a performer’s looks, weight, general physicality = discouraged. Criticiism of a Performer’s performance, talent, attitude and generally anything they could work on improving = encouraged. I see that every one of your posts on this forum relates to Will. If you joined hoping to participate in a Will Young fan fest you’re in the wrong place. We’re a bit broader than that. You’re most welcome to discuss his performances in musicals or theatre in general but that WILL be a discussion and not everyone will agree with you. Hope this clears things up.
