Couldn't find an existing KC3 thread, but the new TV film will air 10th May at 9pm on BBCTwo, starring the late Tim Pigott-Smith.

Thanks for the reminder - I saw the trailer after Line of Duty on Sunday. Looks well made, presumably will feature a "dedicated to" either fronting or backending the programme.

They have already organised some excellent publicity for it in the Daily Mail which should boost the viewing figures.
Interesting that Goold actually said that a couple of actors turned it down because of the negative effect on their chances in the honours list. True or not interesting he said it.

Off topic but this week's episode of Doctor Who (starring David Suchet) is also written by Mike Bartlett. Who is obviously a bit of a fan as he slipped the names of the 70s episodes of Who that Tim Piggot-Smith was in into his tribute to him the other week

Am looking forward to this though slightly disappointed it's not the full original cast, i'd have said the play presented the royals is quite a positive light generally and another opportunity to see the great Tim Piggot-Smith.

The bulk of the cast is the same from original production. Only notable name missing is probably Lydia Wilson who has been replaced by Charlotte Riley. I'd assume that Lydia was probably unavailable as there was no reason to recast just this part.

Reading all the articles saying how "controversial" it is before it has even aired makes me worried that it'll do a Jerry Springer - The Opera and never be performed in the theatre again. There's no 'Royalist Voice' is there?

But should be in good hands with Tamara Lawrence (currently playing Viola at the National) Lucy Phelps who played Jess on last tour is on a 6 month gig with RSC doing Roman season so may not have been available. Katie Brayben who went on to sweep the awards season as Carole King in Beautiful was the initial Diana and younger female understudy in first run. No word that she is reprising her role as a ghost peeping coyly around corners. |

Crikey the media, BBC whatever aren't half making a fuss about this aren't they, or are being whipped up to create media coverage and draw people in, i read something today about the critics at the time the play was on being very critical and saying it was anti monarchist etc but don't recall that. Wonder if people tuning in to watch it on the back of the coverage will wonder where all the controversy is. I loved this at the almeida so hope it transfers to tv well with the added poignancy of being something of a final hurrah for Tim Pigott Smith.

I also missed this on the stage but what I find funny is that we people, theatre punters go to all sorts of stuff, some of it controversial and it is like we are a fifth column of anarchist rebels! We see stuff. Then they put it on the telly and it is ooo sooo out there.
