I was planning to see this again just before it was due to close in Oct...given the above about it being on it's last legs maybe i'd be wise to push that forward a bit. I think it will gothrough the Summer to get that buisness... I was there last night and it was pretty much full. It may be worth sticking it out until October in the long run. |

I noticed something on Sunday too, and I am pretty sure it hadn't been there before, but the line "you can tell its from the 80's by the volume of their hair" regarding Daniela's has changed to the 90's. From what I remember, I originally was the 80's in this production. I wonder if they do it now as 90's because of Phillipa looking younger?
Also the line "pull your damn pants up" in 96,000. The guy playing Grafitti Pete actually tucked his shirt into his pants and had his trousers alot lower than usual so the line actually makes sense now. Nice flowery pants he was wearing too, must be said! Hahaha

Yeah I think it was 90s both at the Southwark and when I saw it at Kings Cross. I don't know why though because I don't really think the 90s was known for voluminous hair.

Yes, the show is meant be set in the present, and so a load of 20 somethings remember the 80s doesn't quite work.

I am glad about Grafitti Pete actually entering the scene with his trousers low though for 96,000. It used to really bug me that just before the line about his pants being low, you would see the actor awkwardly lower them before the line is said. It is the little things that annoy me haha. Though having his pants pulled up to near his belly button may be a stretch hahaa, but he has a nice bum so meh.

Anyway, has Josie Benson left? I know she's very busy at the moment, and none of the cast's recent pictures has featured her that I can see. I hope she's just on holiday.

Each time I saw the show this was done way in advance so all the Graffity Petes were entering the stage with pants already lowered The thing that amuses me most is the line in When the Sun Goes Down, where Benny sings "You’re gonna need a candle"and London Ninas answer "I think I can handle that"On the OBC recording she sings "I think I can manage that". But handle is really better because it rhymes |

I follow Lin-Manuel Miranda on Twitter, and I've just realised that his wife's name is Vanessa - just like the character in ITH who is Usnavi's love interest. Assuming that the character was named after his wife. How sweet  |

Ha yes the 80s/90s thing bugged me when I saw it because I'm used to the recording! I'm pretty sure if you aren't it doesn't stick out. I wonder though as time goes on if ITH is better staged 'historically' for that moment in Washington Heights history/culture. I'm no expert but I'm guessing things have already changed there since it was written?
That's really cute about Vanessa though, I never realised!

I agree I don't see why it isn't just set in the late 2000s.
I just can't believe Lin's wife is a scientist AND lawyer. Their child certainly has some good genes to work with.

I did know about Vanessa. Interesting point about performing it 'historically.' Probably a good idea in a few years, then the costume designers will get to have a bit of fun too.

I believe Lin has confirmed that the character Vanessa isn't named after his wife, rather his sister's best friend (and Nina is based on his sister).
I think setting the show in a specific year would be better as well, again in Everything I Know Nina sees a picture of Usnavi as a baby in 1987, so he'd be ~29 in 2016, and in a relationship with Vanessa who's presumably the same age as Nina (1st year of university so ~19) which is a little off.

The production shots have finally been updated to include Phillipa, Dex and Gabriela as Daniela, Benny and Nina. Emma hasn't been included yet as Vanessa, which I suppose is understandable as she only just took over. They really dragged out changing it for Phillipa though!
