Hey, I'm an actor/singer from the US coming to London for the first time. I have a great apartment I'm renting in the West End. What are THE plays/musicals I need to see? I know Harry Potter is a long stretch, but I wouldn't mind trying for that. I'm interested in Sixpence or The Girls, but open to anything? Would love to see some smaller stuff too.

I'd recommend 42nd Street, Dreamgirls and Half a Sixpence to start with. All three are fantastic and wonderful pieces of theatre. I'd also recommend having a look into venues like New Wimbledon Theatre and the Richmond Theatre, which are in London and tend to get a lot of the touring shows come in for a week or two at a time. So definitely look of for those too.

Harry Potter has a returns queue and tickets randomly come available online.
I second the recommendations for 42nd Street and Dreamgirls (haven't seen Half a Sixpence). Depending on when you're here and how long you're here for, then also consider some of the venues on the outskirts of London like Richmond, Woking, Wimbledon or Milton Keynes for touring productions like Funny Girl (you'll quickly grasp from the threads on here whether people think a particular touring production is worth seeing).
Over the summer it's also worth checking out the Open Air theatre in Regent's Park (they're doing On The Town and a few other things this year), and no-one seems to be quite sure what the Menier Chocolate Factory is doing over the summer yet, but their productions are usually pretty good. And of course there's also the Globe or a trip to Stratford (not the London tube stop, the other one) to see the RSC if you're interested in Shakespeare.

Oh so sorry I'm here April 26-May 2nd.
Anyone seen the immersive Alice in Wonderland?
I'd love to see 42nd Street. Don't really like the show, but reading the thread, you all sold me on it.

Give The Girls a miss. It's mundane in the extreme.

Alice's Adventures Underground is extremely charming but somewhat overpriced. Go if you don't mind the cost, but if it would be a stretch for you then check out other shows instead.

My sister and I loved Sleep No More here, and wanted to take her to something special for her birthday, so thought that it sounded interesting. The price is fine. Honestly, theater in London is so much cheaper in general, so it's not a big deal.
I like sets/production value - and I heard the set for The Girls is coo, which is why I became so interested in it, and I like the story.

A few plays you could look at which are on during your visit:
Rosencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead The Goat Not opened yet but worth investigating: Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui (the Donmar is worth a visit) Romeo and Juliet at the Globe (The Globe is a unique experience) Obsession (Jude Law, Ivo van Hove at the Barbican)
For smaller spaces: as above, look at the Union Theatre and Southwark Playhouse, also Royal Court, Hampstead Theatre, Young Vic, Almeida, Bush Theatre, Gate Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith, Finborough
Also look at londontheatre.co.uk for full West End and Fringe listings by date.
Worth avoiding: Don Juan in Soho
