This Theatre Royal Bath Production touring in the Autumn seems to have had a cast upgrade. Originally they were advertising Gwen Taylor and now Dame Sian Phillips! I think the other role has changed too from Don Warrington to Derek Griffiths.

I was going to start this thread, beat me - for no other reasons it is a first rate cracking play and really worth going out of your way to see.
It is indeed going to star Derek Griffiths as per flyer from Richmond.
The movie is equally great.
Don't miss this one guys.

I have seen him in various things and agree.
Oddly enough it is a Theatre Royal, Bath production but doesn't seem to be playing there.

Struggling to find tour info for this - does anyone know have a link/know where else it's going? (can only find Richmond, Brighton & Newcastle so far.)

Saw the original WE production with Wendy Hiller and Clarke Peters absolutely yonks ago. Recall it being really good.

Didn't we have this recently? Back when James Earl Jones could remember his lines?

Yes, it was pretty mediocre with Vanessa Redgrave so I'm not sure the cast of Playaway is going to entice me in again.

You obviously have no idea of Derek Griffith's CV and should refrain from showing your ignorance on this forum. Please stay away from this production as well, and leave space for people who can appreciate brilliant acting. The performances from Sian Phillips and Derek Griffiths are outstanding.

Saw this, this afternoon in Oxford.
This is one of the greatest plays ever, even though it is slight, it packs a storyline, that plays on the old confederates and unionist conflict, but adds a bit of Jewishness versus African American to add another grenade into the mix, but then as a pair that cannot stand each other because of their pre-conceived bigotry, the playwright could have easily had then fall in love at the end, but not very plausible, instead the playwright goes further, with at the start of the second half, she ( former teacher), teaches him (chauffeur to read), then at the end of the second half, when her dementia has truly sets in she trusts him to..................
Don't want to ruin it for you.
