Well. This is a lot of frothy fun really. It reminds me of 'Feud', and indeed Frances Barber rather camps it up like Bette Davis on speed in a way only she can.
The cast are glorious, throwing out punchline after punchline.
There's a lot of scene changes going on which slows things down a little but on the whole it's a rather entertaining night out.
Oh and if you're sat, like my good self, on the side of the circle you get to see a LOT more of the delicious Jonathan Forbes than most. It almost made me blusher.

Eek, I'd quite forgotten there was a thread as I hadn't planned to see this but succumbed to FOMO - so what a good job I hadn't time to post earlier or I might have started another. Tbh having seen that Ryan was going last night I was also half-hoping he posted first as I wasn't sure what to make of this.
It was indeed a lot of fun in places though that didn't stop me struggling to stay awake and it had its longueurs or moments when the playwright didn't seem to be quite sure what to do next or where it was going. But the hard-working cast of 3 were great and it seemed to be going down well with everyone else. On a side note, a shame the interval lasted way longer than advertised so I missed my train by minutes; the Park has shocking previous for this - do they think everyone lives round the corner?

Hugely enjoyed this. Performances are first class. I know very little about the history of cosmetics but found it all very engrossing. Miriam Margolyes is wonderful; fantastic marriage of actress and part/material. Frances Barber is splendid, and Jonathan Forbes (who I only really know from Catastrophe) was wonderful.
Agree with Ryan that some of the scene changes do slow down the action, but this is a play that spans many years and multiple locations so it's hard to know how to get around that successfully.
By the end I found myself surprisingly moved. And the play is peppered with brilliant one-liners. Well-played all.

I absolutely loved this. OK the play's not perfect but I was engaged, amused and finally moved by the terrific performances of three very hard working actors. Margolyes was magnificent.
