Exciting (It makes me feel less guilty about buying a Friends Membership) but apprehensive about Redgrave. From word of mouth she misses shows but maybe that was just with James Earl Jones...

Yes, the Almeida Friends membership does sound like the way to go here, to ensure a chance to book. So let's hope the rest of their season announcements are equally exciting!
Wonder how the ever troublesome Almeida website will cope with the demand for tickets...

Baz clearly doesn't know his Shakespeare or History... Baz Bamigboye @bazbam 1 hr1 hour ago Family favourites#RalphFiennes #VanessaRedgrave reunite as son & mother in #RichardIII @almeidatheatre @rupertgoold Margaret is not Tricky Dicky's mum.... Are we sure dear Maria Anerg hasn't been let loose on it? She might make them twins... On another topic, it is nice to see Vanessa Redgrave out there doing her thing but she does mumble, bless her. Maybe the small auditorium will be helpful.

I recall at 'Much Ado About Nothing' Vanessa left one scene, did her shopping, had her hair done, an afternoon nap and a meet and greet with the audience before coming back on stage and STILL James Earl Jones hadn't remembered his line.

I heard Joanna Vanderham is in this as well - liked her performance in The Dazzle.

She was great as Desdemona at the RSC last year, too.

Priority booking 5 May, public booking 12 May.
If you think the scramble for these tix will be bad, it'll be nothing compared to Andrew Scott's Hamlet with Juliet Stevenson later in the year...

I'm wilting at the prospect; much prefer the Almeida's previous policy of announcing cast after booking has opened so those of us who would go anyway can grab our tickets before the fans go crazy. Worked a treat for American Psycho.

And what with the Almeida's iffy site which isn't great at the best of times and their irritating single seat policy this is bound to leave me frothy at my computer screen.

Half considering booking the morning off work and rolling up to the theatre on booking day to force them to sell me exactly the seats I want with no messing around. All things considered it might be worth it.

In my email they're trying the line "If you want to book earlier, you can upgrade to the Designers' Circle for only £120/year and then you can book on 3 May".
Last saw this in the Old Vic email about Groundhog Day...

On the other hand, if you manage to buy two tickets for this, I'm sure you'd have no problem getting rid of one of them... (although, I agree, you shouldn't have to!)

True, I suppose with their double seating I'm just meant to give in and find a partner if only to make Almeida booking simpler

Not at all sure about that casting 53 is too old for Richard - it is the story of a young man on the make, not someone in late middle age Surprised at Goold for this Or an old guy's last throw of the dice

Not at all sure about that casting 53 is too old for Richard - it is the story of a young man on the make, not someone in late middle age Surprised at Goold for this Or an old guy's last throw of the dice You can view it in that way - but the text doesn't read that way to me and never has. One of the joys of Shakespeare is the potential for multiple interpretations. Some get bold re-readings very right and others get them very wrong.

Interesting pricing for this:
£10 - £30 (7 - 13 Jun) £10 - £38 (15 - 18 Jun & 1 - 23 Jul) £10 - £48 (20 - 30 Jun & 25 Jul - 6 Aug)
Press night is 14 Jun so that explains £10-30 for the previews, but a bit odd that there's a lower level of pricing for the early post-press shows, then it goes up but drops again for some shows mid-run.
BTW to Phantom - Almeida tix normally go on sale 10am at which point the website falls over and there is a large wailing and gnashing of teeth.

That is odd - a bit like a pre-emptive strike on dynamic pricing (the logic presumably being that, by the end of the run, people who haven't booked it yet will be so desperate to see it they'll pay more. Which is a bit redundant when you know everyone remotely interested in theatre knows full well this will be a hot ticket, so will be booking this early!).
And for me it's incredibly annoying, because just about the only dates I can make for this are in August. Grr.
