Jack O'Connell does indeed fare slightly better (no towel-slipping tonight) Well that's one star off the show review for a start. The nudity isn't completely gratuitous, And there goes another. I'm not sure how planned it is, but the way your photo/avatar/image thing is looking at your comment seems a perfect balance

It would be fantastic if someone could post something constructive about the actual production rather than talk about Tommy Steele. We had 5 fr*gging pages of people talking about how to buy cheap tickets/ how you can get discounts etc- which seems to be the case every time there's a new show. That's not only self-absorbed but boring as hell to those of us who want to discuss plays and performers. At least the Tommy Steele bitchery was amusing! BTW Theatreboard- I wish you would create a section for people who want to discuss/ plan/ review how to get cheap tickets for shows. Those posts clutter up so many threads. Legroom, comfiness of seats and sightlines from Row ZZ are really nothing to do with the productions on topic.

So how can I get discount on Jack O'Connell and does he have much leg (over) room?

Just for future reference, how many posts are required before one can be critical of board practices?

I wouldn't call describing people as "self-absorbed but boring as hell" as being "critical of board practices", I'd call it [edited as Baemax made the point much more eloquently in the following post without using the word "dickhead"]

813. You're nearly there, just twenty more to go! Flippancy aside, it's not a *wholly* ridiculous point. If people wish to influence community behaviour, it very much helps to be an active member of the community. 269 isn't nothing, and of course any member of a community is a valid member of a community, but also 269 is chicken feed compared to someone like TheatreMonkey (whose post count I noticed today makes even chatty idiots like me look positively reticent), so without wishing to invalidate one person's entire existence, I can also see why another person might prefer to take their criticism from someone who is more active in the community, one who is perhaps more willing to lead by example than by critique. (Also it helps to bear in mind that just because someone is critical of a thing it does not automatically follow that the thing should therefore conform to the critic's opinions, no matter what the critic's post count!)

Exactly
And something like "wouldn't it be useful to have a dedicated review forum" (or something) is fine, "you're all boring me by talking about discounts and sightlines" isn't. In my view, which is no more valid than anyone elses, of course!

Also, as one who was yes, taking the piss a bit but with no malice meant. It's back to the 'not what you say it's the way you say it' thing.
A perfectly valid point that we spend a lot of time chatting 'off topic' on threads. And the general 'seating/cheap tickets' discussion could possibly be better off elsewhere. And we've (ironically) got a section of the board for suggestions about the board.
BUT all that said I don't want to post in a community that has so many rules you're forever being policed and/or it's off putting to new members. So it's a tough one to call.
Anyway I hear there's a hot cat somewhere in need of a cool roof?

I'd say you're being thin-skinned, xanderl. No one was insulted and, btw, he makes a valid point.

Also, if a thread consists of 14 pages of people talking about the height of the stage and the best way to get discounts... well, 14 pages isn't chicken feed either. If there wasn't a valid market for discussion of sightlines and ticket costs, then we'd never get to 14 pages of ANY thread. The evidence does suggest that plenty of people *are* perfectly happy talking about sightlines and ticket costs, so perhaps the bored minority is just that - a minority.

Aaaaaaand back to the play. And you're welcome. Apparently, someone called Sienna Miller is in it too. No. Me neither.

And Programme costs. I think as well, given it's a community endeavour you have to go with the minority unless someone is being actively offensive. I wouldn't go in the Wicked thread and tell them I want them to start talking about...well I don't know but there's hundreds of pages there and i would clearly be in the minority so I quietly snoop now and again and go about my day. All to say, I get that it can potentially be annoying but I don't think we can start telling people what to talk about unless it's WAAAY off topic (which the Mods do do very well) Anyway @ryan makes a valid point. As you were.

Yes, let's get back on topic
I do want to see this but tickets seem very pricey for a decent view from a seat with legroom. Any thoughts on the best options? Also, for anyone who's won the todaytix lottery - where did you end up?

TheatreMonkey (whose post count I noticed today makes even chatty idiots like me look positively reticent), LOL. But in seriousness, that includes a lot of posts in the "backstage" area where we discuss admin (and BB and I rehearse our routines for the public pages). Darlings, what the Bear and the Monkey get up to backstage is probably best left there....this isn't a second rate circus you know

Love it when someone who's made 270 posts wanders in to tell us we're boring him. Maybe the number just demonstrates restraint. I suppose I could bore everyone daily with musings over whether to grab a coffee in the Lyttleton bar, or whether the Latte is cheaper at the Globe. Maybe I'd post more if the threads- which seem quite heavily policed for some types of comments- were to be improved by organizing ticket discussions to a place of their own. If you love discussing buying tickets what's wrong with it being in a ticket discussion area?

If you'd like Horton to grace us more often with his intellect, stop posting about ticket prices, legroom and sightlines. Or vice versa.

If you had one thread for all ticket discussions it would be a complete jumble and no-one would be able to find anything. And having a 'sister' thread for every existing thread purely to discuss tickets that would double the size of the forum, and the threads would equally be all over the place, in different places and both would inevitably go off topic and the discussions would get out of control. It would be a mess.
If anyone has a solution they think could work feel free to tell us in the feedback section here.

If anyone has a solution they think could work feel free to tell us in the feedback section here. For what it's worth I think the current system works great. Sure some threads end up being quite scattered (or focussed) but that's just the nature of the beast with internet forums (fora? fori?). The flipside of that freedom is that if you have a random question about, say, the seating, or something weird you noticed in a show, then there's a reasonable chance that people will chat/respond to what you have to say. As someone relatively new here (and who's only been going more regularly to the theatre over the last couple of years) I've certainly benefitted from being able to ask naive/idiotic questions and getting lots of responses. Having lots of small specialised sub-forums might work if there's a massive community, but where it's (relatively) small & niche like here, my guess is that you'll end up with lots of the smaller forums with little to no chatter. It looks like the 'musicals' and 'plays' sub-forums here have a lot more traffic than the others, and I know that I don't check the 'opera & dance' one (that I have an interest in) anywhere near as much as this forum.

where it's (relatively) small & niche like here It feels like that, which is a lovely thing, but you would be absolutely amazed at how many hits the site gets! There are many many many more people reading than contributing! Some of you are national celebs and you don't even know it
