So...this is a NEW production by the Young Vic but it's going straight to the West End? The Old Vic and Donmar have had productions that have debuted in the West End so it's not a new thing. |

Sienna miller was laughable
In As You Like It
And stiff and rigid in Flare Path
She is simply a poor actress
Inferior to peers like Gemma Arterton and Sheridan Smith
Who do have talent
And a whole generation of real actors like Phoebe Fox Vanessa Kirby Jessica Raine
Why have they cast her?
She is hardly a draw

I think you're being a bit harsh. She was great in Factory Girl and I think she just needs a big role like this to show what she's capable of.

LOL re the Mail. Interesting casting - she may surprise us temperamentally and emotionally if she can muster the breath control needed for that marathon first act, which is a killer. O'Connell an intriguing choice as well. Let's see who they get to play Big Daddy .....

As You Like It's director David Lan, artistic director of the Young Vic, defended Miller's performances, then and now. "She's a really good actor who gave a good performance in our show," said Lan. "I didn't see her show in New York but she is a terrific stage actor with a real sense of comedy and timing. For an actor that is more important than anything else."
He also believes Miller has developed her abilities. "It sounds to me like she has grown and matured over the years," he continued.

Remember when the star of “Cabaret” was whoever played the role of Kit Kat Klub chanteuse Sally Bowles? Well, it isn’t this time. It’s Alan Cumming’s Emcee who owns the show — because Sienna Miller’s Sally barely registers.
The New York Times' Ben Brantley began his review saying that he "was rooting" for Sienna Miller, whom he considers to be a "game and gusty kind of gal." But the reviewer concluded that the actress "looks smug at first, then saucy, then distinctly uncomfortable and finally a bit frightened." He added that on paper, Miller wasn't a bad choice for the play's heroine but that ultimately, her "grasp never seems firm" on the role.
Well, let's put it this way - I once saw a 13-year-old girl give a subtler and more captivating performance as Celia in a school play. Limited to roughly two gestures, facial expressions, and tones of voice, wooden Ms Miller has repeatedly to resort to the amateur's tactic - ie, when in doubt, shout and exaggerate.
The Daily Telegraph's Charles Spencer said: 'Sienna Miller is easy on the eye as Rosalind's 'pretty little cousin' Celia, and if she were in a girls' school show, rather than the West End, you would think her well above average.'

Love 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof' but Sienna Miller is just so bland. If she was stood in the middle of a room painted entirely beige she still wouldn't stand out.

I thought Sienna was fine in Flare Path giving a very nuanced performance that was maybe lost on those who don't appreciate subtlety.

I do like a Tennessee Williams, but I do hate the Apollo. Neither actor is particularly a draw or a turn-off for me. I guess it'll depend where these £20 seats actually are whether I book for it or not.

There was a great interview recently with Sienna, where she said that her life choices in her 20s impacted her career and she regrets that- it was honest and interesting where she basically said she got carried away having a good time. And who wouldn't have been tempted? on the arm of Jude Law (and after). Personally I'm not letting tabloid stories impact my opinion of her until I've seen her in something. I love Cat...and I'm intrigued to see her.

Predicted this model from the YV ages ago. Celeb driven west end money makers rather than its raison d'etre of accessible, high quality drama in its own home. Lan craves celebrity.

Nimax can just book now. Expensive, I felt. Gulped and paid up for the "nothing in front" seat X6 in the back row of the stalls as I'm limited on dates - but £47?! Dear TM Can you offer your advice please? How is the upper (grand circle) at this venue? I am booking for my sister and don't want to be scolded I recall the balcony is not used here anymore but are you able to advise if it was being utilised for All My Sons I have a vague recollection of looking up there and being scared from vertigo But am not 100% sure if it was actually the balcony or if in fact the upper (grand) circle was the level I am recalling Thanks for your time! |
