I think Beverley might be a bit of a mismatch to Amber being from a completely different generation.
Dina especially will need to be someone quite, well, hot, especially since Effie is fired to make room for Dina, who is slightly more generic sounding than Effie but with great visual appeal. Maybe Zoe Birkett would be a good choice. I'd say Gloria Onitiri who is stunning and statuesque with a marvelous voice, but she's a bit of a mismatch with Amber.

They could get a virtual unknown to play Dina and really show off their talents. They could put a name into the male parts. If they started (and I know they can't) putting Bev or Alex in this then they could overshadow Amber Riley, who, unless you've watched Glee wouldn't have a clue who she is.

Rachel John is wonderful. I saw her as Rachel (yet to see her as Nikki) and she was a great singer, and a fine actress.
But I don't think she's quite right. I actually think she can be a better Effie than Dina.
But to answer your question, she leaves in February when the show closes, so there's quite a cross-over time, and I think she'll remain with the BG.

Zoe would be a great choice actually... she is beautiful, she could manage the score and she can act so that helps too.
I think they will get a star casting for Dina too, mainly because a lot of the fans of the film will be going in with their minds set that that role was once played by Beyoncé... so either they will do a star casting or they will pick an unknown Musical Theatre star to shock everyone.

Deena also isn't that great a part (even in the film played by Beyonce). She's just so wet and completely overshadowed by Effie. In fact, the whole show is completely overshadowed by 'And I'm Telling You . . . '

I would think it will be slightly beefed up for this production. They certainly tried to give her more depth in the movie and in the recent US tour. It's a decent part that could be better. Certainly kickstarted a career for Sheryl Lee Ralph in the US, that has actually become a lot more successful than Jennifer Holliday's.

I don't know how long she's in Hollyoaks for but Rachel Adedeji was a good singer on X-Factor and obviously will get more acting experience in Hollyoaks. And I think she's done a musical or two somewhere along the line.

Live... which funnily enough, the one time I saw it, had Zoe Birkett on as the Leading Female Singer and she was the highlight of the show, an insane talent! |

Can someone please explain to me why the ending of Act I is how it is? Because in the original Broadway production at least, And I Am Telling You is sung, but then it mounds into a song for the girl group that literally lasts about 20 seconds before the curtain goes down for intermission. It never really added anything to the story that we don't find out soon into Act II.
Now, in the original Broadway production, you couldn't even hear anything of the girls singing because the applause and screaming from Jennifer singing was so intense it was impossible to hear. Don't believe me? Listen to it below... And I Am Telling You begins at around 1h 10m in.
I have seen videos from amateur productions where they did cut that final part with the girls and just end with And I Am Telling You... surely this would be a change that really would not make that much a difference and really finish Act I with a powerhouse moment?
I also realise this is a small thing that no one would care about but I am petty like that haha.

It's... it's showing how although Effie has this amazing talent she's losing her place in the spotlight to the blander stylings of the other girls. If people come out thinking isn't it annoying that we don't get to finish act 1 baying for Effie's powerhouse moment, how dare the others take that final moment of the act, then they've pretty much got the point of it. I mean, possibly the writers could have reconsidered it once the audiences got in there and started drowning out that last little bit with their rapturous applause, but they clearly want the statement to be made, so it's still there.

What Baemax is saying. The "Love Love Me Baby" bit sung by the (new) dreams at the end of Effie's big number intentionally steals the her big moment and gives the final note to the group that fired her. It was Michael Bennett's idea in the original production to have it in there.
The Bennett version was really wonderful and the singing out of this world, it's too bad that the OBC cast recording does not reflect the energy of the show. I tend to listen to live recordings of the OBC or the Actors Equity recording with Lillias White (who was the original standby on Broadway), Audra McDonald and Heather Headley. Audra is a great singer, but she was completely miscast for this.

They don't. Unless you physically have the ticket, the transaction hasn't completed and they can refund you 5 quid. Price glitches happen all the time, and they almost always get cancelled. Tesco once sold 1000s of iPad's online for a tenner, none were shipped, everyone just got a refund. Decided to shell out for this, the most I've spent on upper circle seats, but it is my favourite musical film, so here's hoping it's worth it.
With The Color Purple currently booking up until October and deals a plenty for it (so I've heard) maybe it won't extend through and Cynthia will fly back for Deena - or even (in my wildest dreams) J-Hud.

It's not just the site that's Sketchy. That said it was always going to depend on the producers pockets whether they honoured these or not. |
