I agree with notmymuse. Thought they've probably re-written some scenes, inserted at least two songs (I know Act II has a new opening number, and I would think Listen is now slotted in), I doubt there will be many changes. It's essentially a public (very polished) rehearsal at this point during its previews.
I'm of course dying to see this, since DG is one of my all time favorite shows (that I've never seen). I'm there on the first preview, and have a ticket on the first night the alternate Effie goes on. Wouldn't be surprised to find myself dayseating for another show on the weekend or matinee.

Now now Anthony, it's nothing to be ashamed of!  Yes she sang it on Glee but all of the drama was stolen by the over-production and dead eyed soulless direction of the programme. This was remarkable, and I too am now interested to see the show, so it's done it's promo job brilliantly hasn't it? |

Okay, so I was SO excited to see Amber in this. And I actually did really like the promo of her doing I Am Changing, which got very mixed notices on the board. I saw this, and of course she sings it very well, but I felt that it was a bit sanitized compared to the great Effies I'm more familiar with, the likes of Jennifer Holliday, Roz Ryan, Sharon Brown and Lillias White. Having said that, this is of course a standalone rendition with no context, and TV studios tend to have a different effect than live performances in the theatre. I don't think I'll have issues with her performance at the Savoy, when it's part of the plot, and when she's wigged up, mic dangling from her forehead, and just fired and dumped by Curtis.
In the meantime, here's a gem from the 80s

Well she certainly has a set of pipes on her.
Hope the Savoy audience doesn't adopt that "x factor" trait of applauding mid song and let her get to the end before the ovation

But I don't know, I think it's great that post Glee! most of these 'kids' in their own way have gone onto other projects in which they can prove themselves. And that despite the auto tuning, production values and choreography they, as Amber so brilliantly proved last night, can actually sing. |

Yes, Amber's rendition is too polished, but the voice is great! She will be terrific in the show. How many shows does she do every week, 5?
And I love Lillias White, it might be an unpopular opinion but she's the definitive Effie for me

Too polished is what I wanted to say. But I do agree, she will be terrific. She's a very talented and naturally likable performer.
Not an unpopular opinion at all, Lillias White's Effie is fabulous and in fact probably more "real" than Jennifer Holliday's, whose performance is/was legendary but also quite OTT.

Also got a big theatre binge planned that weekend (my sister is visiting). Side Show on Sat afternoon, Dreamgirls sat evening, and hoping to do School of rock sunday matinee and then something else on the Friday night! |

My November-December theatre binge is actually unbelievable and has been a year in the making. I'm basically cramming twenty-something shows in three continents, in four cities, between late November to Christmas time.

Oh WOW that was an incredible performance. A really good plug for the show. Yes, it's a polished "concert" performance for the TV - "acting" the hell out of it like on stage can look a bit ridiculous on the television but in the theatre I am sure she will blow the roof off and it will be incredibly emotional.
I am not really familiar with her work, to be honest, but she came across as a beautiful, warm and genuine performer. I liked the way she turned and applauded the orchestra - and what a band they were! Just cannot wait for this. I really hope she has the stamina and health for a years run of 7/8 shows a week!
