I think once more and that'll be it for me. We'll see if I change my mind after listening to the Cast Recording which has just arrived.

I need to go back. I have to catch Amber before she leaves, having only seen Marisha!

Yes that's when I saw Amber. The twenty-second of February. Don't know if the schedules have changed since then.

So caught the matinee yesterday (Saturday)...and I should be honest and say I didnt really have much interest in seeing the show when it first opened, and I only really went because I wanted to see something I haven't seen before and got a cheap ticket on TodayTix (it was either this or Wicked #33, and I really want to stay away from the Apollo Vic for a while)
And I now feel like an idiot. Possibly the best show of my weekend trip. When I watched the Oliviers I was just like "oh girl from Glee won over Sheridan and Glenn, thats a shock"...but now I know why she won. AMBER RILEY IS A SINGING GODDESS. That voice, her voice was just perfection to my ears. I cried, multiple times. I dont think I have ever been at a show with a standing ovation at the end of Act 1 that didnt involve a green cast change. I sat for most of the interval with tears streaming down my face. And I'm telling you (see what I did there) I will definitely be back to see this show again.
Really loved Asmeret Ghebremichael as Lorrell...so funny and energetic. Almost thought she was on speed.
My only previous experience of Dreamgirls was a scene in Ugly Betty where Amanda and Marc are drunkingly dancing around the office in gowns singing the title song...but it is now one of my new favourite musicals.

They've just released the running order for West End Live and Marisha has her own spot on Sunday evening. She's definitely taking over the West End right now! I think they'd be mad not to offer her Effie once Amber leaves

But it's much more common on the Broadway scene to have all these extra performances. Broadway in Bryant park, stars in the alley, performances in grand central etc etc, we just don't typically have as many opportunities here so it's great she is embracing it.

Im thinking of getting a last minute ticket for next Wednesday just so I can hopefully see Amber. Has anyone sat up in the gods? is the view ok?

I wouldn't recommend it. Rear stalls or dress are better places to see this show. Especially because a lot of it is in the format of 'being at a concert', you'll get a much better atmosphere from low down. The £20-30 rear dress/stalls seats that come up on TKTS and TodayTix are a good bet.

In Episode 5 of Season 5 of Orange is the New Black, there is a flashback scene where Janae (who is African American) is taken to a very wealthy private high school and is given a tour of the facility, including a rehearsal of Dreamgirls, and yup, you guessed it, the three Dreams are white (with Afros), and the camera switches between her teenage self and the ridiculous situation on stage. The crazy part is that many years ago, I spotted a high school productions of Dreamgirls where the Dreams were played by white girls as well. I love OITNB and its astute commentary on class, race and identify politics, and this moment made me even love it more. I am sure whoever thought of this scene must have seen something like it in the past, because no one can invent sh*t this crazy. I must say, I have just watched this episode, I am watching the season now and I completely agree with everything you're saying. To add, if I may, ven though it racially isn't right to have three white girls playing The Dreams, on a critical level, the little white girl playing Effie wasn't half bad singing And I Am Telling You!

haha, oh girl please no one wants to hear a white girl sing that song. Which is why in some put-in rehearsals, Ms. Jennifer Holliday demanded that her rehearsal put-in must be white. It was an outdoor production and Ms. Thing does not do rehearsals in the sun during the day. True story.

I disagree, I would recommend the upper circle - at least the first half a dozen rows - completely clear view, and although it is far away I could still make out facial expressions. If you don't want to pay a lot of money and can't get a deal at TKTS/TodayTix then it's not a bad place to sit at all.

I'm sure it's probably somewhere in the 161 pages of this thread, but does anyone know where the £21 seats are in the stalls that TKTS sell? Cheers

1st timer here!
My partner and I have been debating for a few weeks about who sings what in Listen! 1st world problems I know! Can anyone settle it for us please?
We are in agreement obviously that the 'please sister please yeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhh' wailing high notes are most definitely Amber/Effie. What we can't agree on is the rest.
On 'back in the day', 'leave that man' and the final 'on my own' I'm adamant that it's Liisi but he thinks it's Amber.
Can somebody please settle this extremely important issue for us once and for all?
Many thanks!

hmm..isn't it obvious?
The first "please" is Deena, but then they both sing sister please at the same time. Effie has all the higher notes.

I'm talking about the following harmonised notes after that part. When they sang it on the one show it looks pretty obvious to me that it's Liisi. A lot of the comments on YouTube seem to say the same.

No, Effie sings the higher "please", but Deena sings "back in the day", "leave that man" and "On My Own" higher than Effie. Liisi always blows me away during this song, she really holds her own.

Anywhere they are allowed to mark down. I'd guess mostly row S and back. Good value. I ended up in the second row monkey. Endured the first act but found it really dull, and went for a kip before my evening activity instead.
