The fact it has never been in the West End is going to draw long time theatre fans in who have wanted to see it. The film and the Beyoncé/Jennifer songs that became hits for both of them, will sell to that group of fans. Plus the Amber Riley casting (as well as other suspected star casting) will draw in that fanbase.
It looks like a solid formula to sell well and run a while, but we shall have to wait and see.

Amber has never done a musical though has she? Is she up to it, is the obvious question. Presumably she is, or she wouldn't have been cast I'm sure.... One can't help thinking though.... Anyway I'm timing my visit. Early January, hopefully she's got into her stride, she's not *too* homesick and the illnesses haven't started to kick in yet

I for one don't quite understand why everyone on here's rushing to buy tickets for this eight or so months in advance. I will go and see this eventually, but I'm definitely not in a rush.

Why are we made to feel nowadays that we SIMPLY MUST BOOK for every show the day it goes onsale or we won't have any chance at seeing it otherwise?
Even in the West End now...

Haven't even figured out my London dates for the second half of this year*). And I don't think it'll be a sell-out show, so I can still get tickets a few weeks before I'm actually going. And who knows, maybe they'll cast someone incredible (someone really incredible, to misquote Elder Price) as alternate Effie (think of Rachel John), and in this case I'm so going to see a scheduled alternate show instead. I don't think this show appeals enough to me to see it more than once. *) bar August b/c of Groundhog Day.

I'm a sucker and booked. If I like it I'll look for discounts later. Whilst I'm not in london I'm trying to get saturdays and they're rarely that cheap unless dayseats/lotto.

On the pre-sale on ATG, the service fee is only 3 pounds...which is the fee that ATG always charges. A regular ticket in the stalls in 62.50 with the fee...
59.50 is the price for previews and they will prob add 10 pounds after it opens like they are doing for Funny Girl.
Not sure why one would use ILoveTheatre.com with a 15 pound handling fee for terrible seat locs....

In my case it's because this will be my last trip to London for 2016, and it comes at the end of the trip. For local residents, I have to agree with you, especially given this is not a limited run (a la Groundhog Day). Where does it say that there's an alternate Effie? Not that I mind--on the contrary I'm surprised it's not two days per week given the sheet volume of crazy singing and work Effie does in the show. The show's website is pretty simple.

I'm surprised the alternate isn't doing the matinees rather than an evening show...

I totally forgot her name, but the girl who played Oda Mae Brown in Ghost on tour would be a great Effie (in fact..I think her real name is also Oda Mae?).

Sandra Marvin is another person I'd like to have seen as Effie

I think for this particular cast, especially since they are probably going to build it around Amber, it'll be a pretty young cast (or at least The Dreams will be). I'd be really interested to see who they chose as Dina.

She's 30, so Deena at least would ideally be a similar sort of age. The time period covered by the show means they'd need to be able to play younger as well as a little older, but it'd look weird if they cast all babies.

All my "hurry up, this is the first day of sales, I need to grab a seat!" bookings were a complete mess so I am here with you on that. I wouldn't be booking that much in advance if I lived somewhere closer than 10-12 hours of travelling! And still gutted I lost money I could live 2 weeks here at home and a front row seat for Funny Girl in winter

She was in a school-based TV show for years and she's got AMAZING skin. Wholly understandable.

I can't think of a star name for Deena really. I guess someone like Alexandra Burke would have been an obvious name but she's in Sister Act. I'm not sure it really suits Bev Knight but anyways she's in The Bodyguard. There aren't really any other people that spring to mind save for someone like Leona Lewis but i'd doubt she is going in the Musical Theatre direction. There are more options if you start looking over to america but i'm not sure they will go that way with already one american star name.
