Hate to p*ss on anyone's chips, but I was deeply disappointed with this. Was at the same performance as Steve, oddly, and I'm afraid this show did very little for me. It felt dated compared to "Memphis" and "Ma Rainey" and though Amber can sing, she can't really act - not that the script gives much opportunity anyway. In a diva-off, Knight and John would beat her hands down. Full thoughts on my own site now, but really just not for me. Oh well.

Oh no, I wonder what happened. Any update? Not sure if it's anything to do with the show stop, or as a result of it, but looks like Jocasta Almgill went on as Lorrell for the very first time this evening, mid-show!

Well there was a technical break after 25 minutes. Took about 5 minutes and they announced someone was replaced. Unfortunately I didn't catch who.
The show was mixed for me. When Effie is not on stage the plot is boring and often the modes are loud, louder and very loud.
Still, it was worth it to hear Amber Riley sing and her solos were good. Very interactive audience though I really dislike it when there is clapping before the song is over.

I hope this clapping mid song thing wears off before next week when I go! I thought the same. I had a women whooping and screaming behind me too. I was glad I read about it on here so I was prepared for it.

I blame the TV talent shows, where the audience are actively encourage to applaud at random moments - two bars into a song, mid-song, tempo change, chorus, keychange...etc! The weirdest one was during this year's Strictly final, when the audience started clapping along to the tense 'waiting for the results to be announced' music!

I wanted to hear the money note at the end of And I am telling you not the sound of some women's tonsils vibrating from screaming so loud. The audience went nuts for Imelda's performance but at least she finished before they showed their appreciation.

I was there on Tuesday night and have to say we were blown away by Amber's vocals and also Brother's. A pleasure to witness them.
We really couldn't understand how everyone could be cheering and clapping, when they couldn't even hear her performance because of this! At the end of AIATYING it became a fight between Amber and the audience over the table!
I don't know if by one thought the same, but despite the glorious sparkle, it was more like a concert. Despite Amber being amiable, we didn't feel there was any characterisation or any vested interest in what happened to any of the cast.

Its only one performance a week and even then only Karen has been on. I doubt the 2nd will go on much, let alone this girl. Talented as they are, what a joke! The only upside is she can put on her CV she was cast as Alternate Effie White.

Why don't they give Amber two shows a week off (Monday and Wednesday night) like Beverley gets in The Bodyguard then two alternates can play each week? That way the alternates get more show time and Amber can rest more?
Never heard of a show having 3 alternates though.....very surprising as they have an understudy too?!
