Is she taking social media lessons from Ms Erivo?!

Her Twitter headline now says Alternate Effie White Dreamgirls 2016.
The woman has some front, I'll give her that.

Maybe because they replaced her? Agreed, I interpreted that as her still being bitter that she was replaced, in a life imitating art scenario. Effie is hard-done-by through the business that is show, ergo Ruth is she.

Did you like the crystal curtain? The sparkliest thing in London! Agree about the set, simple but brilliant. Loved the lighting too, and how they integrated it into the set. I dont know if this will tour but but I hope it does, and I really hope they don't cut it back too much. Not only the crystal curtain, but also the white drape-like curtain that smoothly falls down/unrolls at one point. And when the crystal curtain/beads started to lift to form an arc... Brilliant!

Don't worry...she's got this Or not... I so wish we would see clips of Ruth absolutely smashing it in performances like this, because I have always been rooting for her, and nowadays it's easy to present yourself to the world in a manner that you like with all these social media platforms. But she displays some very strange timing-choices and she literally skips words in various lines which really is a shame. I mean does she listen to music and it's details? Or is she one of those musicians that doesn't really care for that detail in music and rather sings along in her own way as soon as she can? Because there are definitely things she needs to work at. If I were her, I would record a perfect version of the song in the studio along with a cool videoclip and prove everyone wrong, instead of doing performances like this. Because she definitely has a voice.

Agree. Perhaps she can't resist messing about with it. It's like singers who "riff" (god I hate that word and I hold Wicked responsible) the entire song as if it demonstrates some sort of prowess. It ALWAYS sounds worse that it would if sung straight. I suspect it's used to cover up inadequacies. Maybe this is why it became apparent that she wasn't ready. Because if you can only perform a song if you have to mess with it then you havent "got this".

Exactly the same on The Voice. I thought over the years she might have sorted out the problems but seems not. There is actually a great voice there it's just she does such strange things with it. Very strange.

Very strange. I think people are just telling her she's marvellous and not being helpful by telling her how to improve.

I also think she has timing issues or just does not hear it musically. Some of her choices seem so random, they don't match the pace of the music or make sense in any way at all.

First thing she should do is cut down on the growling.

Presumably when she auditioned she sang the damous Effie songs...so my question is how she got cast in the first place if that's how she sang it? They can't have been okay with it being performed like that? I find it frustrating because i feel liek she really could sing the score quote well actually if she cut out all the bizarre stuff she does with her voice and her habit of singing things that aren't words.

The thing is that she is performing in some sort of club in this case and I think we should give her the benefit of the doubt that instead of singing as written maybe she's trying to put her own spin on it.
Obviously we've been less than nice to her on the board and as Burly said, she does have a great voice.
I'm routing for her, and obviously I know this isn't a good representation of the song...but with a good director and musical director, they could fix the problems?

Obviously we've been less than nice to her on the board I'm not sure I'd agree with that. We've responded to, and questioned, the validity of the stuff she's put out on social media. As the delay in her appearing went on the doubts about her suitability to perform the role were eventually borne out by her being dropped. If she wants to carry on fooling herself, and people who don't know the facts, that she somehow appeared in the show then I think that says more about her than the comments made on this forum.

I feel for Ruth. She must have been so excited to be cast, and thought it would change her life and be an amazing adventure etc. etc. Now she finds herself almost further back than before she was given the role, as industry people will be judging her, her pride is hurt and likely her confidence, and her chances of being cast in any show anytime soon is not high. To deal with all of that, and reasonably publicly, at a fairly young age is tough. But I guess she's just another talented person who wanted to perform and make it big and hasn't cos there are too many other talented people and too few chances to go around.
For my money her I'm guessing her acting wasn't up to scratch which is why she never went on, and after much trying to help her improve, she couldn't. But who knows. If she wasn't good enough to go on, fair dues to the producers for getting Marisha over here in time (which must have been a visa/rehearsal nightmare) to ensure another performer was available. I'm guessing the producers probably enjoyed telling Ruth she was fired about as much as she enjoyed being fired...

I must say this has restored a lot of my faith in Karen having read her early reviews, heard some dodgy early audios and not enjoying her at WEL. Whilst this is still in my opinion far too riff-heavy (and at points sounds like she's imitating Amber on the OLCR) it is certainly powerful, passionate and most importantly in tune! Maybe I will check her interpretation of Effie out after all.

Yes I agree with you and she does seem full of herself on social media but that is just her sadness and insecurity coming out.
It will be interesting to see who takes over for Amber and if Ruth actually will join the cast at some point?

Oooh I love Ruth's outfit. Does she have some fluffy mules to go with it?
My grandmother used to wear something similar with ostrich feathers. She was a drunk of course. And a friend of Diana Mosley. Make of that what you will.

Glenn Close finally works out that Angela Lansbury wasn't in her dressing room just to wish her well in 'Sunset Boulevard' . . . .

I just got back from Dreamgirls this evening. I have only seen it once before - in previews with Amber. I knew as a Monday it would be someone else (I won TodayTix lottery) and it was Marisha. I was a little apprehensive about how the two shows would compare, but I was blown away by Marisha tonight. There was no screeching or shouting (a little bit in I'm Telling You, but nothing OTT) and I was really impressed by her voice in general and her acting.

I have seen Karen 5 times and I can honestly say I have watched her journey on improving the way she sings some of her songs, although she's not perfect I've taken to her over Amber as she is not as well known! I can honestly say she is my favourite Effie!
