I really thought she would be playing the role of 'Mama' but Roxy is interesting casting, I don't plan to be in NYC till May so will not see this (and it would be unlikely I would want to go see Chicago when I have other shows I would like to see).
It's a 8 week run and sure will boost sales, its good casting but I am little unsure it should be for 'Roxy' but I look forward to reviews and dogey Youtube footage!

I'd like to hear what she actually, you know, sounds like, before proclaiming it as amazing casting.

Okay maybe I exaggerated but I meant that, in my eyes, this was great casting that would make me visit the show to see her in that role. I am personally excited by the casting news as I am a big Mel B Dan.

Is there any celebrity casting that has happened this year that you haven't got bonkersly excited about?

Is there any celebrity casting that has happened this year that you haven't got bonkersly excited about? Yes. There have been. Multiple actually. Usually I love seeing celebrities who I like on stage and half the time the celebrities performing are actual performers/singers/actors. I dont visit EVERY show where there is a celebrity in it but I just express my delight when a celeb I like goes into a show. I usually always visit a show because I want to see the SHOW but half the time there is a celebrity in the show meaning it's an added bonus. I'm not going to not visit a show just because there isn't a celeb involved. The Girls is a prime example of how they haven't done celebrity/stunt casting but it is still a show people want to see and the cast still work really well together and play their parts brilliantly. In a nutshell the answer to your quesrion Is yes. I really don't get excited by every piece of celebrity casting...

She did Mimi on Broadway for a limited run back in the day... not a fan of her as an actress in truth. I love The Spice Girls, they are forever iconic, but of the five of them, she needs to leave the stage work to Mel C.

I love The Spice Girls, perhaps too much as I sat through Vivaforever but this is unnacaptable to me (her singing in RENT and breaking character)

Honestly, I think there are worse shows for her to break character in than Chicago. Besides it was her final night, so can't say I'm surprised.

This made me so mad. Yes there are worse shows to do it in. But I'd be furious if I'd been in the audience. I'm watching. Chicago, not Mel B making a prat of herself

She literally sang less than 10 words of one of her biggest and most iconic songs... so what! I thought it was fab, as did most of the audience by the sounds of it - good on her! I've seen far worse pranks on final cast shows which would be more annoying and confusing to anyone who didn't get what was going on (costume and wig mix ups, ad libs, etc). I would love to see her perform Roxie (ad libs and all) in the UK sometime.

But its the principle of it - she's playing Roxie in Chicago. Roxie in Chicago wouldn't do that. It just grates on me that someone would do that

Chicago, not Mel B making a prat of herself Oh for goodness sake, lighten up!! It was her final show. She was once part of the biggest group on the planet. People in that audience are probably fans of her and will know who she is. She came out of character for what 5 seconds and it's not like she did that each show, is it? Yes she is playing Roxie in Chicago but she is Mel B (who people might've booked specifically to have seen) and Mel B would do that. Fair enough if she did the whole show as Mel B but she didn't. The audience obviously loved it and I'm sure you wouldn't be so "mad" if say you were at Wicked for one of those muck up matinees and they did something different?!

I don't think its fair to compare this to West End muck-ups. From what I've heard, they are often full of silly little things that don't break character and would be mostly un-noticable to people who haven't seen the show before. This was a blatant break of character and the clip that was posted earlier makes her look very unprofessional. I know people are entitled to their own opinions on these things, but surely just because she's an ex-pop star it doesn't give her licence to behave like this when any regular musical theatre performer would surely face untold scrutiny for breaking character so blatantly?

Half the fans would probably rather she did the whole of Wannabe than the Chicago score, but this was their only chance to see her.
I've always had a soft spot for Mel. I'm sure if it was someone else I would be annoyed like everyone else though.

That's exactly the point. It's not a Muck Up Matinee. It's, as far as most of the audience are concerned, just a regular performance.
Do that in Mel B in concert, not in Chicago.
I thank you.

I'm sure half the audience who visit a muck up matinee at Wicked don't expect it to be a muck up show, just a regular performance? Same here. It was her last performance in that role...ever! You obviously hate celebrities in shows but Mel B did nothing wrong. A 5 second slip of her most famous song. Usually people just laugh it off...I bet you would if it happened in Wicked

I would love to see her perform Roxie (ad libs and all) in the UK sometime. The problem with it is that she disrupted the performance. By the looks of it, the audience took a while to settle down, and Mel had to actually say she was going back in to character. It's one thing having a 'muck-up' performance to celebrate someone leaving the cast, but the 'muck-ups' shouldn't disrupt the flow of the performance.

I'm not going to defend myself against what I would and wouldn't haven't done if this had happened at Wicked (it's also become very obvious who you are as well after the 'I hate celebrities' remark.
Let's leave it at this - the audio I saw of her singing Roxie was good - I don't have a problem with her playing Roxie as she's actually ok at it, it seems. I'd just like her to stick to that.
