Do we assume the tour has been axed this year....?
See Nell Gwynn is out but was wondering about the platform-open air tour....a highlight always.
Guess its gone.

Not necessary - they always seem to pop to Brighton on their tours as part of Brighton festival (or Brighton fringe) and that don't get announced til tomorrow (or next week for the fringe) and then the globe tend to announce the tour after?
Oh actually, they normally say WHAT they r touring before this....assuming they haven't? Prob Ricey don't like them, just like she don't like Shakespeare or theatre even (as I read in an interview with her from 2010 the other day....)

The small scale tours are usually announced at the same time as the rest of the season, because they'll be doing a short run at the Globe itself and they need to sell that just as much as any other production. Nell Gwynn and Tristan & Yseult are both playing other theatres, and are scheduled in at the Globe, so it would be just plain ridiculous at this point to expect anything else to materialise. A shame, yes, but also just plain ridiculous.

Last year's small scale tour originated in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, not in the Globe Theatre. As nothing at all has been announced for the SWP this summer, I was hoping that a summer SWP programme and smallscale tour would be announced together. However, my hope declines day by day as the light returns. BUT today Bristol Old Vic announced a short return visit this summer of The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk, so maybe that will also play a return season in the SWP this summer, perhaps alongside a Shakespeare for a small scale tour ... ?

I have just heard that there will be no Globe visit to Oxford this summer. Whether that is true for all venues, I have yet to establish.
The Watermill Theatre are coming with a production of Twelfth Night instead - in August (or so it would appear at the moment)

Really sorry to hear this about Oxford.,.,always a summer highlight.Guess spending reductions have to be made somewhere and with all the kit coming into Globe you can't keep on spending.Seems to me all the great initiatives are being kicked out right now. Time to hear about future and it's irresponsible of management to keep quiet about plans.Contempt for those who have supported over the years.No AD job ad suggests guest season planner ........I suggest a good look at Munby or Eve Best for long term........

It's the Management that will keep the Globe from imploding. The Board will probably cock up the future planning framework, just as they cocked up the appointment of the current AD and the parting of the ways. And the Management will continue to keep the place on the rails, as best as they can with this dysfunctional Board. |

Don't know how relevant this is to the discussion, but regarding Sam Wanamaker's summer programming: Oxford Uni's Drama Society are doing a run of As You Like It at the Wanamaker in August and then touring it round the country (incl. Oxford and Stratford) - that might affect things somewhat?

Oxford and Stratford) - that might affect things somewhat? The OUDS tour is a long-standing part of the Oxford scene - and it has grown in recent years. They are backed by Thelma Holt who no doubt set up the SWP run for them. They end up in Japan for a few performances! I don't think this will have altered the Globe plans beyond the run there - something bigger has been going on to see the tour reduced/cancelled. |

They're not going to Japan this year, hence the SWP run, yep. But yes, will only affect a week or so at SWP!
