Duncan Macmillan, Simon Stephens, Jessica Swale, Nick Payne, Daniel Kitson, James Graham, Lucy Kirkwood, Lucy Prebble, Lee Hall, David Greig, Richard Bean etc. Not all get a consistent chance to write big plays but that's economics, not ability. Some great names there, certainly, and I really hope Hytner enables some of them to write big plays. My worry is that the economics of an unsubsidised theatre are less favourable to ambition than those of, say, the National. All I ask for is (a) no adaptations of great films and (b) no adaptations of great novels. Disapproving of adaptations of great novels is very Billingtonian. I don't necessarily see the problem if it is a novel not many people have actually read. When Nunn was at the NT he planned an adaptation of Our Mutual Friend, that might fill The Bridge.

Is that The Hypocrite, or is he doing another new one? A new one but it will contain the same old jokes.

Comedy gold!

I've got my fingers crossed for an opening with a Brexit-relevant reinterpreted stage version of Carry On Abroad.

Got it, thinking about it - hadn't clocked that booking was so near for this. Assume they will launch in a blaze of publicity, but I guess that's no guarantee of how popular anything will be.

Do we know how big the theatre is yet? 900 seats wasn't it, or have I made that up?

Do we know how big the theatre is yet? 900 seats wasn't it, or have I made that up? But it has various configurations, so probably some have fewer seats. And Julius Caesar is promenade, so Theatremonkey can simply colour in the entire promenade-stage area with one single felt tip.

Hmm, priority booking shouldn't really be necessary for a 900-seater - not unless they cast Cumberbatch in something.

Thought that was a different Julius Caeser at the Sheffield Crucible, Rob Hastie directing?
