Flippin awful day. Supposed to be seeing Crazy for You followed by Dear England. Sadly our train terminated part way to London. Change of train required but next train too full and wouldn’t allow anyone to get on, next train the same. Resigned to not seeing C4U just take an easy trip into Waterloo for DE. But no, coming back my train is now being brought forward so getting home after the show would be far too risky. Now sat at home moaning How awful. I really feel for you. Two good shows. Hope future plans go better.

Honestly Lynette I’ve missed and rescheduled so many shows this year due to train strikes etc. I’m more sorry for my husband missing C4U as I’ve seen DE multiple times and have a few more visits before it closes. Sadly I couldn’t get a credit note for either of them.

theatremiss Very sorry for you. The trains in the last few months have been a nightmare. If it's not strikes it's engineering and if it's not engineering it's lines down/broken rails/points failures/trees down/bodies on the line, etc. etc. It's got to the stage where it feels like a miracle if one's trains are actually running on time.

I feel really sorry for those of you who don't live in London and have yo travel down to go to the theatre. It must be an absolute nightmare booking ahead and then there are train issues. I live in London and only have to get the underground but hate it when a line is down or there are delays. So can't imagine what it's like for you. Let's hope 2024 is a bit better for you all.

I’ve only been to London once this year and I only did that because it was for Sunset Blvd. I’ve saved many hundreds of pounds as a result. Putting aside the cost of tickets when you can’t take advantage of short notice deals, if travel difficulties continue and if hotels continue to rip people off then folks like me will just stop going and will spend our money locally. You just end up thinking “how badly do I want to see that really?”. It’s a shame.

I'm still going to London but I'm very rarely going further afield. In the past I've done theatre trips as far afield as Cardiff & Newcastle but the trains are so unreliable & expensive recently that I don't feel I can risk it. The only somewhat longer-distance trip I've done this year was to Chichester & I got a £15 theatre ticket so I wouldn't lose too much money if I wasn't able to make it. As it was, I was very lucky that the performance I booked for ended up being the day before a 2-day train strike so I just made it.

I’m surprised the theatres and restaurants etc aren’t saying anything about the disruption. Well, not surprised..

Was working at home, when I heard a commotion outside.
An older guy was hitting seven shades out of a teenage lad, parked his car up to do it.
Poor lad was getting beaten by his grandad!
A contractor working at the downstairs flat saw it from the beginning and rang police.
Poor lad lives with him as well, and grandad regularly throws hands because he has anger management problems.

Not seen that sketch in years. She had so much more to give, tragic loss. Without doubt my favourite comic of all time.

On the diet theme:
"Sandra, if you're going into town gerrus a raspberry yoghurt. If they haven't got raspberry gerrus som'at else." "I couldn't get you raspberry yoghurt, so I got you meat 'n' potato pie instead. Is that alright?"

Bumping this up a bit. Nice day, doing not much, a few admin jobs, communication with friends and family, wander round the block to say I’m healthy and just eaten 2 satsumas, so I can have fish, chips and mushy pease for tea, can’t I? Beginning to feel like Spring down South, daffs coming out…I like theatre best in the Spring and Summer…hurrah! Excited for some of the new plays in London….be nice to see some family drama stuff where people shout and disagree…in real life I’m a happy soul!

When you get a message from your brother - 'Can I call you? Nothing urgent.'
You sigh, and think 'What has she done now?'.
She being our mother. And she's in hospital but seems fine.
Can only wait till I get an update later, but there is no urgency of me needing to fly over.

Cyber wave to the young guy on my (late running) train this morning who tapped me on the shoulder and said I was in his reserved seat. I showed him my ticket, Seat H49. Showed me his ticket, Seat H49. I said - the 07.19? He said - No, the 07.28. I said - you are on the wrong train, that's the one behind this. He said - I was told I could get on this one.
I looked at him. He looked at me. He sighed, said "it's alright" and sloped off to find another seat.
I wonder when (if) it'll dawn on him that not every seat H49 is reserved for him today.

She's also stubborn and does some risky stuff she shouldn't be doing. Insists on living independently, when she really really shouldn't. She's fine, thank you. Was allowed home after a few hours in A&E.

Two things I expect from a Hotel no matter what the budget. Clean. Safe.
I moved out of London 2 years ago but travel into my London Bridge office twice a week. Occasionally, once a month at least, I stay at a hotel, "do" a show and have two days back to back. Stayed at a Wembley hotel on Tuesday night that I'd stayed at 5 times previously (October 2022 - March 2023) - I stopped staying there as last room I got was a bit ropey and the exterior fabric of the building was, well, awful (they'd removed the cladding on the outside of the building and I kept thinking, they'll sort it out and 18 months on it's exactly the same). Maybe it was time for a revisit, I thought, it's only for a couple of hours sleep, I thought. Didn't go to a show after all, being really tired after a 6am start. Booked in at 7pm with the firm intention if the room was rubbish I'd ask for another. No, room was OK but hot - took my shirt off, went for a wee in bra and jeans. And heard the room door open, mens voices, and the door shut again.
Oh boy did I let rip at reception (face to face) who'd put the next arriving guests into my room. I got a "sorry" and a "very sorry" in the face to face, and a call to my room later offering me free breakfast. Free breakfast offered again next morning when I saw another "manager". But I doubt I'll ever walk into a hotel room again and not put a shed load of furniture in front of the door the minute I get in.
*No I didn't have the free b*st*rd breakfast! Probably lifelong trauma being mid-wee and strange men walking in...

Oh God, that’s awful. I’ve had people trying their keycards in the door in the middle of the night before now and that was bad enough.

And a report to the London tourist people, the hotel industry and maybe the police. If this is recorded event then police will have something to go on if anything bad happens. Not funny, not to be dismissed. The person entering your room had key/card and could have entered again at any time. Who knows if he gave it back? I watch a lot of tec/murder stuff and what looks simple often isn’t . Yes, goes the other way but why chance that?

I had a couple of wakes during the night thinking - Connie Francis (raped in her hotel room). My bag on the table which could have been taken in a matter of seconds with my car keys, my credit cards and work credit cards. I could have been in the bath. When I've stayed before there have been students staying - in checking out yesterday there was a coach load of primary school children leaving. What if!!
After I'd spoken to reception I went up in the lift with a youngish guy who could see I was in a fury - I said "I've just had a man walk in my room" - he said "the same thing happened to me yesterday, twice in fact, while I was in just a towel". Now, I've no idea if what he said is correct, maybe he thought it'd calm me down or something. I'd booked through Hotels.com as I get a discount with 10 bookings (makes sense when I book for colleagues and myself), and I've told them. I'm thinking I'll tell my brother-in-law - he is Met Police based within Wembley Park. I needed a day to cool off - I don't take pleasure in giving a bad review but Jesus, how much more vulnerable could I be with my pants around my ankles? I needed a bit more of a reaction from Reception than the "sorry sorry have a full english".
