Casting announced for this today; Rona Morison, Rebecca Trehearn & Saskia Strallen.
Great cast and love the artwork. Will definitely be booking, especially with Rebecca in the cast!

Caught this yesterday afternoon and loved it. It's had some good reviews; 4 stars from the Stage & WhatsOnStage. I went for Rebecca Trehearn who was wonderful, but the star of the show is Rona Morison who doesn't really leave the stage for the whole thing. It gets pretty dark, a lot darker than I thought it was going to be and was really quite moving by the end of it.
It was 90 minutes straight through so I was out by 5pm. Definitely worth catching if you can.
Also love the little space at Southwark. What a little gem!

Wow this was excellent tonight (my first time in the small small space at Southwark).
I haven't read the source (graphic novel) or the film (is on my Netflix list) so only went in knowing the premise but not too much and I was treated to a brilliant executed play that is both funny and dark.
Loved the staging and set, the cast were all excellent.
Really enjoyed it!!

Saw this last night. I saw the movie back when it first came out, though I've never read the graphic novel. As far as I could tell, this was a pretty faithful adaptation - though trimmed down to 90 minutes, of course. I enjoyed it, and found the moral complexity to be compelling. However, I don't think this material really needed to be turned into a play. After having seen the excellent movie, I didn't feel like the theatrical setting brought anything exciting or new to the story. Still, as I said, I did enjoyed it. I thought it was well-acted, and I appreciated the versatile use of the space.

I was at the matinee yesterday and agree about the use of the space - this was the best configuration I've seen at the Southwark Little with the seats on three sides. Much more playing room than in the past.
Re the play, I had not seen the movie so it was all new to me and I thought it worked beautifully. A very well structured and clever telling of a sometimes difficult story. The conceit is that it's the audio diary of Minnie, a 15 year old girl in San Francisco in 1976, and she serves as narrator/host with the other actors coming on as needed. It works so well, in large part, because the actress playing Minnie, Rona Morison, is just stunningly good. It's a huge role with heavy emotional scenes interspersed with laugh-out-loud comedy, at all of which she excels. According to her bio she is to be in the upcoming Steven Spielberg film so perhaps she's a young star in the making. She certainly has the talent.
The entire cast, including Rebecca Trehearn - the first time I've seen her in a non-singing role - is excellent, as is the production. I believe it's playing another week and I would unhesitatingly recommend it.
