The whole cast of Titanic, except the horrible man. Just think about 'Lady's Maid' all singing about their hopes and dreams of the their lives ahead in America...starts crying at desk!

Quasimodo, Esmeralda and to an extent Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame are tragic characters Quasimodo in particular as everyone he loves ends up dead.

Billy Flynn.
The character of course is far from tragic, but I saw him played by Billy Ray Cyrus.

There are a range of options
Frank, Charley and Mary from Merrily We Roll Along - that show makes me cry so much and to see their lives disintegrate backwards just gets me every time
The other main claim for me has to be Molina in Kiss of the Spiderwoman - he is a man who lives through his dreams, his memories and his hopes. His need for love is ultimately what kills him - a real tragic figure.

I'd suggest Judas in JCS - depends on how the actor chooses to portray the role but can be interpreted as he knows he's being manipulated and yet seems helpless to stop it

Surely Celie in The Colour Purple is the most tragic, even though she gets a triumphant end? or is this thread about the characters with the most tragic end?
