But isn't the Ben play not going on sale till may? Prob won't b that much a scrum for the others?? That was my thought too, But I was too afraid of being screeched at to say so. |

Five hours later… I managed to get all the cheap tickets I wanted in the right dates. I don't know what happened to the 2000 people in front of me in the queue. They must have been interested in tickets for 'Yerma' only. Now I will go out and buy some chamomile to get ready for the Almeida booking tomorrow.

Definitely my worst online theatre booking (or attempted booking) experience ever: over 2 hours in the queue; website hanging ominously when it claimed to be redirecting me, then multiple attempts to book for Nina failed, as I kept getting an error message saying I had taken over 30 minutes. Round and round in the same inescapable loop, yet when I tested the system by purporting to want to book for something else, it worked fine. So galling to be accused of taking more than 30 mins when it was the YV site which kept me waiting for over 4 times as long AND I went straight to the checkout page as soon as I'd (supposedly) selected my tix.
When I've recovered enough mental energy I will complain to them, but it won't help me get tix.

Well I did get tickets in the end but all rather stressful, kicking myself for having not got in queue earlier and then being most unreasonably full of envy rage when more savvy others got tickets, turns out i'm not a nice person to be pleased for others. Locking myself out of my building would probably be comical for anyone watching, have never been so eager to get back into work. The site worked fine for me, the queue was 3 hours plus but it worked when I got in ok and since I was by then so fed up that I refused to leave with nothing they probably did better out of me than if i'd just got on much quicker.
So the almeida ben play not booking tomorrow? thanks for tip off, that would have had been baffled and probably going red in face, new person in office tomorrow so have to be polite and not appear like mad woman as trying to secretly book tickets.

I think it gives you the "30mins" message when there are no seats left....it's just a sort of completely incorrect message that allows them to bail. I also find it incomprehensible that their email confirmation includes no date or time that you have booked for!!!! Please do add it to the list of complaints! Yes, I couldn't get any tickets (despite being able to select certain dates), so must be sold out. It's a shame, as I really wanted to see it. Oh, well!

The young vic booking system is the pits, I remember Streetcar was the worst experience I've ever had.
I really feel for the (seemingly numerous) people who had seats selected and then the site crashed during the payment stage. I'd be in a rage!
Let's hope it transfers here before the NYC run so more people get to see it.

I was booking for 3 different friends on 3 different dates for Yerma as none of them had either the funds or the access to book it themselves so it was a bit of a stress. But I managed to reinstate everything and successfully got them all, so phew. As for Yerma transferring, I don't think it can due to the set and the staging. I don't think there is a traditional West End house that could accommodate it. That is presumably one of the reasons they're not targeting a traditional space when they go to NYC with it too. |

I logged on not long after 9 and found myself in a very short queue but didn't realise that the booking had opened so didn't bother to click on book tickets until I saw the message on here that the booking was open. I really kicked myself as I then found myself at over 700 in the queue and finally managed to get 2 tickets just before 12 o'clock. I thought I was going to have to give up as I had to be in Stratford for the performance at 1.30. Even then I got the 30 minute message for the first date I tried for and then when I did get the tickets the pay button wasn't showing and I had to reload the payment page, talk about traumatic.

Hadn't realised so many had had the same issue as I did or other problems; maybe it'd help if a few more of us complained?
I think there's hope that the show I wanted to see (Nina) will have a longer life but I feel for all those wanting others for which they were unable to book - and as Peggs says, the process takes its toll on you in terms of distraction and stress. I could never have done this on one of my volunteering days but it turns out that trying on a non-working day served me no better either. It is however the first time I have ever attempted to use the Young Vic site on the day booking opened for a new season; (bitter) lesson learned for the future!

The problem with complaining though just is that its caused by demand generally!
What i would say is that if it is something essential you want to watch, going down to buy in person of possible is the best bet. Thats how i got harry potter tics.

Nothing wrong with high demand; issue is websites unable to cope with this, especially when it's so predictable. Hence the reason why I think it worth complaining. And yes, booking in person is great if possible, but for so many of us it isn't - and besides, what's online booking for, anyway?

West End theatres can't really accommodate traverse staging, but they can't accommodate round staging either and that didn't stop things like Curious Incident or This House transferring. Pick a side to be the front, plop a glass box on the stage, maybe rejig a bit of the blocking, away you go. You could even have onstage seating for a bit of a traverse feel. There could be a real issue with wing space for scene changes, but they could work it out I'm sure.

Although agree that the scene changes would be tricky. |

Reading everyone's tales of booking trials yesterday, I'm feeling slightly less extravagant for splashing out on a Friend's membership to access priority booking. There were enough things I wanted to see (Yerma being top of the list having missed it last time round) that with the discounts it only cost me an extra £15 spread across 5 tickets. And the way work was yesterday, I'd have had no chance at all in the melee.

I booked a couple of shows during the Friends booking, but wasn't sure about How To Win Against History, especially as the tickets were £20 for the date I was looking at. However, had a change of heart so went on today (short queue about 5 - 10 minutes) and looked at booking again. Noticed that all tickets are only £10 for the first couple of performances, so that decided me and am going the first Friday. As may have been mentioned on here, both Nina and Yerma seem to be sold out, but looks like there are tickets for most other things.

How to win against history is in preview for that dates, it's what I've done as didn't want to pay £20 but people here seemed really positive so thought at £10 could give it a whirl, sadly there on the sat or could have waved at you Foxa.

And after yesterday's debacle, I've just had an email from the Young Vic to inform me that the new season is on sale..
EDIT: in their defence, I just had a look on the site out of curiosity and found myself at number 850 in the queue, so I guess plenty of people needed the reminder.
