i was genuinely thinking about this yesterday because I was wondering what would be at the fringe this summer( and remembered that this never came to London from there).Very much looking forward to it and hope it happens so there will be yet another show I want to see this year.

The first Juke Box musical I ever saw. Can it be 26 years since we saw the Original production at Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Clarke Peters was the creator and main man. Paul J. Medford was good in this and later in The Lion King. Fun, but no desire to see it again, will stick to original Louis Jordan’s recordings. (Same applies to all JBM).
So what was the first Juke Box musical, or is it a long standing thing?

Return to the Forbidden Planet was an early jukebox musical (1980s).
Saw 5 Guys in the West End in 1993 but didn't love it, despite a brilliant cast and the joint jumping.

Plus the seat plan is square whereas the venue is round, so presumably "indicative" only.
If you do a google image search for "Spiegeltent" you'll get an idea of the building. Suspect some of the restricted views at the back will be due to the pillars. As it's literally in the middle of a traffic island I suspect noise will be an issue at the back, much as it was with Lazarus at King's Cross.

Looks like it's a different director, choreographer and designer from the Edinburgh production. But can someone tell me what the difference is between Underbelly and Udderbelly (if there is any?) and what they are? I remember it was on a Channel 4 or E4 thing from ages ago with an upside down purple cow...

Thanks, theatre monkey but where is the stage (or is it my computer not showing the whole image)? The circular seats seem to be focused on the table seating!
EDIT: The Delfont Mackintosh site has a plan but only a fraction of the seats seem to be available - the same ones at every matinee performance. So it seems either seats are being withheld or others have better allocations. Either way, I've decided to not see this.

Thanks for that @theatremonkey - I'd sussed that the show site had a better selection than DMT, but was reluctant to book without a detailed seating chart...guess what I'm doing when I get home tonight!

What do you reckon are the best bet for £15 preview tickets @theatremonkey? There seems to be a random mix of different price bands and I can't work out if the cheap ones are going to be behind pillars or something...appreciate no one really knows but you are the resident expert on all things seating  |

Most interesting discovery. If you ignore Delfont Mackintosh, and go instead to the official show website, www.fiveguysmusical.com, you are booking with Underbelly Festival, rather than Delmac. That means a far greater choice of seats, including ones as low as £15 (£10 previews), no booking fees online and "select your own seat" if you can crack the code. Code: Enter the number of tickets you want in the price boxes initially, and let the computer offer you tickets. If you don't like them, click "choose alternatives" and hey presto, a "select your own seats" screen appears for you to choose from. Many thanks for the tip - easy booking and clearly lots of seats available at the moment. |

Obviously we don't know much about this production yet, but as for the show itself, is it worth it? The synopsis and cast recording aren't very inspiring, but I wondered if people could wade in with their opinions on the musical as a piece.

We're in London in September for Proms In The Park and a couple of days either side. Was looking for some reasonably priced shows to go to and saw this at a 'pop up' theatre in Marble Arch. Tickets are from only £15 but I don't really understand how it all works as there are tables nearest to the stage and then different colours representing different areas. As the tickets available are in the blue area (which seems fairly near the stage to me), I'm not sure what I will be getting, but for £15 think it's worth taking a chance. Does anyone have any other information about this at all please?
