So aside from the preannounced runs of 'Coriolanus' and 'Dido, Queen of Carthage', any rumours or news on the Winter Season this year?
Also we have 2 TOP new work festivals still due an announcement. It was this time last year when the 16-17 press release came out.

RSC announcement ought to be any day now. We are due a handful more: Young Vic, TR Bath and of course Chichester.

One apparent definite (RSC insider info) is the Christmas show will be A Christmas Carol. No idea on director or adapter, but designed by Stephen Brimson Lewis. One of my favourite stories, so we shall see on wednesday when announcement comes out.

I love A Christmas Carol, but struggle to imagine at the RSC or what they could possibly do with a new adaptation (if it is new). Nonetheless I'm sure it will still be exciting.

Lots of flying? CGI ghosts? Tiny Tina? Adaptation by Anders Lustgarten? The possibilities are endless.

Never saw but did read the John Mortimer adaptation from years ago and rather liked that. Doubt it will be that one somehow. Probably Polly Findlay directing with debbie tucker green adapting

Ugh, a Christmas Carol? What a horrifically boring and safe choice. I swear I never miss Michael Boyd more than when the RSC's family Christmas offering turns out to be thoroughly underwhelming (ie every year since Doran took over).

Seems an odd choice if true, will it be revival of the version they did st the Barbican in the mid 90s? Have to say i still dont see why the rsc feel they have to do xmas show every year!

Yes, money. But also a much broader audience demographic, and it rouses goodwill towards the RSC in the local population.

Most of stratford would rather rsc were not in their town and as for demographic it doesnt change much. I mean local as in within an hour's travel. I know that many of my family, for example, show some interest in the Christmas family shows but none in the rest of the programme. And I would be very surprised if there were not more children and multi-generational groups at the family shows than at the other RSC stuff in the rest of the year.

"I hope that this family production, inspired by the masques of King James' court and by the possibilities of today's technology, will be a magical and unforgettable experience."

Good job I like it...
