Having never been to one of these workshops before how staged are they? I thought it was just a concert presentation so i am surprised to see Arlene Phillips there. It has been officially described as a "concert-style workshop performance". I don't think they will be using the roller skates as the actors usually undergo a couple of months of training with them prior to the show which this cast have not done. They've only had this week to rehearse. |

I'm honestly wonder about the so-called readings/workshops that are part of The Other Palace programming. Yes, they are readings or concerts, but I feel that they are just such and aren't part of a bigger plan to transfer them to more permanent or commercial runs. That's fair, but I am getting a hunch that they are sold on a false premise that there are producers behind this who want to take these works to the next level.

It's going to change a bit throughout the week in theory. If they put every song that had been cut over the years (within reason*) I guess it could be over two and a half hours. *I don't mean literally every single song over the years but just where there used to be a song but now there isn't if that makes sense. For example it would be silly to have He'll Whistle At Me and He Whistled At Me. (I hope it's the latter rather than the former even if it's in the place of He'll Whistle At Me.) |

Email from them says, "Starlight Express runs at approximately 2hrs including a 20 minute interval. The full two acts will be performed with scripts in hand and minimal staging. Minimal props and costume will be used to indicate or suggest characters or themes. The show will be accompanied by live musicians. Please note the show will contain Haze." Why they are warning about air freshener has me confused, but otherwise it sounds good. I'm assuming all the songs will be present but they'll have whittled down the script for the purpose of the workshop performances? |

Also Tassita is a new character as far as my memory is concerned, as I've not heard of her before, unless she's an amalgamation of Electra's entourage. Interesting casting though, looking forward to seeing it on Friday ☺️ |

Thats actually quite an amazing cast for such a small production! I've seen half of them in shows and they are all fanastic. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

It's assumed that Tassita is replacing Buffy and Belle replacing Ashley but that could be way off the mark. I still hope they've brought Belle back proper, but if anyone was going to sing that song, surely it'd be Mica Paris. Maybe they've turned the song 'Belle' into a song to replace Poppa's Blues.
All speculation/wishes until later.
I guess they're using the ensemble actors to sing components and freight trucks. I thought we had confirmation somewhere that someone was playing at least one Hopper.
