Because there is a post here about people's favourite musical of 2016 i was wondering which one people felt was the most underrated or did not get enough attention.
For me it would be the go between. That was such beautiful and great show but when I saw it only 1/3of the stalls were full!!

For me it would be Mrs Henderson Presents. It was by no means perfect but it deserved to run longer than it did.

I, too, saw The Go-Between. The theatre was much fuller when I went (towards the end of the run). However, I have to be honest and say that I found the whole thing slow-paced and quite unengaging. There were moments that were touching and Crawford's performance was very accomplished, but somehow it just wasn't enough for me! Maybe I'm too high-maintenance!!!!
I just felt most of the music was 'samey' and there was not really enough depth to the story for a 2-hr plus piece of theatre. Tbh, I'm surprised it lasted for the whole length of it's limited run. I am glad, though, that I got to see something different. I'm not sure there is enough new and original musical theatre in London anymore. There seems to be many new things on Broadway that, despite their success over there, no longer transfer.

Probably Vanities. I think only one person has mentioned it in the "best musical of 2016" thread. I thought it was a great musical, with an amazing cast.

Agree with Grey Gardens - I enjoyed it a lot. I think it was a piece that worked well in the small space.

Oh yes, I liked that, but until I saw your post, I'd forgotten I'd even seen it. Maybe it was just too small (albeit perfectly formed and performed) to attract sufficient attention? |

Mrs Henderson Presents - a strong story, strong songs, great cast, and a story with an end. Had a good audience mix too-needed a few more younger people in the mix and then more of everyone. . Wrong deterrent scale seat pricing, and an opaque name.
Titanic - Beautiful - Showboat staging might have worked somewhere bigger with an even better sound and story. Missed opportunity for 2012 too .
Vanities might work on a bigger stage - multiple plays have less going on. Class act/ors. Title is a bit opaque though.

I'd agree with Vanities, hands down. I don't think there has ever been more perfect casting. All three girls were fantastic and the show fit almost perfectly in Traf 2.
I'd love to also suggest Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour - obviously a bigger show since it was at the National but I think one that a lot of people unfortunately missed!

For me that's Sheffield Crucible's Flowers for Mrs Harris, with it's wonderful song Rain on Me.
