Would be fun to see Dance of the Vampires flop in London as well. But who knows, if Bat out of Hell becomes a huge hit, someone might try and run this on back of it as "another musical with music by Jim Steinman".
Elisabeth might have had a small chance in the 90s, when overblown melodrama was still popular. These days, not so much. I'd say the same for "Kristina fran Duvemala", btw. Both are shows I loved when they came out, but my opinion of them has changed greatly over the years. Maybe I'm just older and more cynic now.
Could name tons of European musicals tht "never made it" although I'd say most of them were only ever conceived for the national market with no attempt to export them. Only the Viennese always had that chip on their shoulder about exporting their stuff worldwide. Could also name several Broadway musicals that never made it. Next to Normal being the obvious one. I would have loved to see Big Fish. Maybe Southwark will tackle it some time.

Two UK tours and a load of amateur productions later still no West End run (the first tour with Paul Nicholas 12 years ago being a fine example of a show using the "Prior to the West End" label on the marketing!).

Aida and Scarlet Pimpernel. I adored them on Broadway and saw them both twice. Fabulous shows.
As someone mentioned above Newsies too is an incredible show.
Other those - musicals that haven't made it to the WE include Jekyll and Hyde, Harmony, Civil War, 9 to 5, Wedding Singer, Dogfight, Curtains, Doctor Zhivago, Little Women, Color Purple, Dracula, All Shook Up (the Elvis musical recently on UK tour with different name), Young Frankenstein and so many others mostly from Broadway.....

Oh I do hope Flowers for Mrs Harris is shown somewhere again. What an incredible show. I'm so so glad I went to Sheffield to see it. Smart, chic, moving with excellent performances. Wow. |

Off the top of my head I remember it had Caroline O'Connor, Tim Flavin, Susie Blake and Nigel Richards. I have the programme still somewhere. I believe it started at the Forum Theatre in Whythenshawe, which was extremely busy and successful in the 80's and 90's. |
