Are they afraid to show the set and projections or something, because why are they showing the dark void of the auditorium in a lot of the trailer.
Ooh that bit where they have Manford singing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on a loop!
And there's only brief shots of the car (which is small and when I saw the show it jiggles around when people board it). The last shot I should see in the trailer is the car, not Truly hitting her motorcycle

While I'm starting to find Jason Manford's Facebook posts slightly annoying, I agree it is a bit awful for an audience member to throw sweets onto the stage. I imagine it's due to the show's orchestra being in a room in the basement rather than in the pit this week in Southend. As for the comments about the trailer, it could possibly just be a first edit, maybe they'll release another one, but at the moment it just seems like a group of bad close-up panning/moving shots. Maybe they're avoiding face close ups due to the constantly changing cast. |

Carrie has a clip of her rehearsing the Music Box number (it is literally 5 seconds long, one line only) but she sounds beautiful, very much higher than she sang in Les Mis, I think she will sound great in the theatre.

Michelle Collins has withdrew from the show after Wimbledon due to knee injury. Claire Sweeney to take over.
Shame would've loved to have seen Michelle but Claire is great!

Carrie tweeted that she tweeted on the day she got the role- the screenshot of it says it was published jan 21st, but she started telling people she has a new job in dec already... isnt weird- saying you have a job before actually getting it? I think she explained this in that she had another job and then got the Truly role so turned the other one down. Now I'm not a Carrie superfan by any stretch of the imagination but there's no denying she's a talented young woman and I think comments like 'well at least this'll keep her out of the west end' (not sure who said it) are a little unfair. If you can't say anything nice n all that.... |

If Mary Poppins ends up going to the Drury Lane, to early to predict Carrie as the lead...? I don't think they would sack Zizi for Carrie somehow. I think if they were going to get rid of Zizi then they would get a "celebrity" to get the audiences in to be honest.. |

Just reading the cast for when pops into Sheffield and whilst I'm pleased Phil Jupitas isn't in it, we seem to have Shaun Williamson 'Barry from Eastenders' hope I can get out my head he's Barry!

Seeing it now, but the show has been stopped due to technical difficulties with the car. We've been waiting for ten minutes so far. For the record though, nobody has been slurring their lines.

Gosh, well I really wanted to like this, as the film holds a dear place in my childhood memory. But alas, today's show was plagued with difficulties. Faulty microphones, broken headlights and juddering sets. The children in this I found to be very hammy, choosing to shout every line possible. The boy and Carrie both had a near miss when stepping back onto Chitty when it appeared that the foot hold buckled, nearly causing them to face plant the floor. Whilst I appreciate that today was day one in a new venue with a new cast, there are still fundamental issues with this I feel. The extra songs not from the film are clearly filler and are quite tiresome. I just feel this doesn't translate particularly well onto stage.
High points - Carrie Hope Fletcher has a voice to die for, and Doll on a Music Box felt truly magical to witness.

I'm still convinced that the original production and 1st tour translated the film to stage very well.
It's just the changes that were made in the subsequent tours that have done the musical no favours. The second tour added the lesser songs from the film whilst cutting out the childcatcher's only song. This current version takes ages to get going whilst the songs have been slowed down
Does the car still wobble up and down whenever anyone clambers on it? And simply making it go up and down in the air doesn't cut it for me.
Cant fault West Yorkshire Playhouse for giving this musical a try, but this needs a fully-fledged production to be truly magical.
