The tattoo covers on her arms are very obvious too. Funnily enough I didn't notice until you mentioned it, but now yeah I agree, they are very evident.

I saw the trailer for this and decided to steer well clear. I know you shouldn't judge something entirely from a trailer - but normally they put the best bits in to encourage you to see the whole thing. And if they were the highlights, I dread to think what the rest was like.
Just no.

Im behind because I couldn't get home in time, so have just got to the end of Act 1 so far, and the best parts were of course People and Don't Rain on My Parade. The latter, she blew it out of the park vocally and her performance of People was a great acting performance, touching indeed.

I didn't notice the tattoo covering until a close up of her in front of the mirror.
It's certainly a different show from the Menier. An additional song and others extended. Bigger cast too.
Brought back lots of happy memories and a bit of a tear at the beginning and end.

Found myself getting a bit emotional after Rat-Tat-Rat-Tat when she went from happy onstage to alone and upset backstage. It mirrored her personal life at the time and I found it so touching. Who Are You Now too sounds great, which I'm currently at.

I enjoyed it! Sheridan played it as she did when I saw it on tour. I did find her ever so slightly irritating in the first half but she was great in the second part. Darius is some eye candy at least and is decent in the role. Some lovely staging, costumes and routines.

Actually this confirmed what I already knew, sadly!
You can drink bottles of prosecco but you cannot beat the real thing.

its a fair enough comment when it affects the suitability for a role. people comment on age, height, tattoos etc. weight is just another physical trait that can affect someone's believability in a role. especially when playing a real person

Given everything she was going through at the time I think it's particularly highly distasteful to comment on her weight like that - there's no need to be so rude. She isn't a dancer who needs to keep in shape to be able to fulfil a particular role, and people have different body shapes anyway. I thought that we were moving past that sort of body shaming, but it appears I was sadly mistaken. Anyway, she was fabulous when I saw this live, so I have no need to relive it through a filmed version, which will always lose some of the magic of live theatre.

The general policy we adopt on this forum is that criticism of a performer’s weight, looks or other aspects of their natural physicality is not welcomed. There is plenty of scope for criticism of people’s work, so let’s restrict our comments to that.
It’s not a perfect policy by any stretch, so no need to go shooting holes in it here. However it’s what the admin team have decided as a result of much feedback over the last two years. We try to maintain it as best we can and appreciate your co-operation.

I suppose we have to cut Sheridan some slack on the basis that she was performing that to the back of the upper circle of The Palace, whilst at the same time having a camera zooming in on her face. Some exaggeration is to be expected?
Having said that, in the other broadcasts I’ve seen of other shows this hasn’t been an issue. Miss Saigon comes to mind as an example of it being performed without actors slipping into characature.

Weren’t there many naysayers and comments of overacting regarding Imelda Staunton in Gypsy when that was aired on TV? The arguments seem to be the same. I think old-fashioned musicals lend themselves to overacting (that is their style?), especially when it comes to ‘big characters’ like Fanny or Rose. They simply don’t transfer well IMO. Nevertheless, I enjoyed both film versions, though admittedly less so than when I saw them live in the theatre.

I did like the fact that the moustache falling off during rat-a-tat-tat has been kept in the show (on purpose). This happened by accident during the first preview and was hilarious, so they kept it in during the run. Sheridan also used to do a lot of adlibbing during this song and even had some audience interaction. One night there were a group of people from Virgin Atlantic in the audience and she even incorporated that into the song.
Shame the "oh s**t" bit didn't make the live recording which was also kept in when she walked into one of the fly mirrors when exiting the stage one night.

Very disappointed. I was expecting big things from Sheridan and was disappointed. She mumbled a good part of her lib and there was to much face pulling. Darius was like a plank and as for his dancing .......
Let’s hope An American In Paris is better.

I'd forgotten this was on and turned off the film I was watching just in time to see Sheri belting her face off at the end. Thankfully SkyArts are a fan of the numerous repeat in a week so i've set it to record another evening. She sounded as great as I remembered live for my money. And looked great.

It would be appropriate to extend this to issues of mental health as well. Many will know about the Broadwayworld forum meltdown that was precipated by attacking a performer and ridiculing their mental health issues (and that performers proactive response). The sooner that mental health is treated equally to physical health the better.

Just finished watching it (thank goodness for catch up TV!). Sound and picture quality were fine.
I now get what some people were getting at re: the gurning and 'mugging'. However, after watching a couple of clips of her on youtube, Fanny Brice was like that. I imagine Sheridan watched those clips and more to get a handle on Fanny's personality. I think the problem is that in FG, Fanny always seems to be in performance mode - even during what should be normal conversations. So there's no contrast between Fanny the performer and Fanny the person. Hence it quickly becomes grating.
I thought Darius was good - an understated performance that worked well in contrast with Sheridan's more 'in your face' one. He is very good looking, so Fanny coming over all unnecessary in his presence worked well and was plausible. I'd forgotten how tall he is - at one point, he walked from one side of the stage to the other, behind a line of people (in the 'mother's party' scene) and you could see him towering over them all!
Overall, a good watch.
Incidentally, the dress Sheridan was wearing in the final scene was strange. Not a dress that screamed 'glamour' to me.

Watched it. Preferred the production value of the American in Paris recording overall. I think the issue I had with this was the leads. I found Darius a bit wooden and felt he lacked chemistry with Sheridan. Really appreciated Sheridan’s acting but didn’t love her vocals overall. Nice to see the production again having only seen it once in 2016, but definitely preferred Natasha Barnes as Fanny and Philip Bertioli as Nick.

I watched this today on TiVo.
Have to say, I first watched the production with Natasha Barnes when Sheridan was not on at all. I was blown away by her and her voice (I've never been a fan of Sheridan's voice) so much so that when Sheridan returned I booked on the Monday with Natasha.
I have to say that watching this today I felt I made the right decision by a long shot. Sheridan's voice just doesn't fit the songs, I'm sorry to her fans, but it really doesn't, certain songs she just skips over the singing completely.
Those who never saw Natasha missed a trick, she was amazing, this made her look all the better.
