Saw the show Friday night. Saw it twice at the Menier with Sheridan and LOVED it.
Sadly, I didn't on Friday. And I am very much in a minority here, but I think that my issue was Natasha. I was really excited to see the difference in someone else playing Fanny, and after the reviews she was getting I was even more excited. But I just didn't get it. I at no point saw what everyone was on about. She sang very well (Rain on my Parade especially) but I didn't laugh once. It just seems for me that Sheridan is the driving force behind this show, and what makes it work. It also highlighted how awful Act 2 of this show is - it is so badly written.
I'm not at any point in this knocking Natasha - I wouldn't want to go through what she's having to contend with for anything, but I just didn't see what everyone else was seeing. Be interested to see if anyone else agreed.

Out of interest who is the 2nd understudy for Fanny? Surely there must be one to be able to cover for Natasha? Clare Rickard

I don't think she will come back. Have you heard something? You often have the inside scoop.

I don't think she will come back. You'll upset George with talk like that

I hope she will be back, it is a performance everyone deserves to see and Sheridan deserves to shine and have all of the recognition she gets for it.

I don't think she will come back. Noooo! The producer of ATG said she will be back but just needs a break. I hope she returns after those 4 weeks (9th June?). When are are you guys expecting an announcement?

I wonder if Sheridan returning will be announced or if it will just happen out of the blue? The closest comparison I can think of is David Tennant returning to his run in Hamlet (after being injured for most of the London run). There people knew he'd be returning sooner or later, but they quietly gave him stage time in the day and then put him on for a performance unannounced. Mostly to avoid press attention/pressure on the evening, I think. After that they let the news seep out. So I wouldn't be surprised if they don't announce her return, but we find out thanks to twitter etc.

IFshe does come back, I'd be surprised if they 'announce' it. Even if she turns up to perform , who knows if she'll make it on stage. They won't want to put more pressure on her by announcing her big return

The Daily Mirror report (from The Sun) that Sheridan was rushed to hospital on Sunday following a collapse at the Spa she is currently attending, but has since been released and has made a full recovery, and it was nothing to do with her stress or state of mind. It really is worrying reading these sort of articles, whether there's much truth behind it, who knows. Hope she is and continues to be well. A source told the newspaper: "Sheridan has been at Champneys to undergo total rest while she’s been recuperating during her time off from Funny Girl. "She has been in a better place and things have been looking up, but on Sunday there was a medical emergency and ambulances were called. "But she is doing much better and it has nothing to do with stress or her state of mind." www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/sheridan-smith-rushed-hospital-after-8035396

Hopefully she is doing her best to relax and be able to return to the show as soon as possible.

I hope she is okay. I also hope she's doing what's best for her and not only coming back to this production because she feels pressured to. Having this many incidents in a short space of time is concerning, related or not.

At least it said she's been released from hospital and is making a full recovery. It's nice to hear she's on the up too and getting better, it's nice . Hopefully she'll be back in like 2 weeks.

Is that what you take from this? To me it doesn't sound like she will be back any time soon. I wouldn't put money on her being back within two weeks.

Let's hope the press are blowing things out of all proportion for a sensationalist headline.

The bigger thing is she collapsed, so she is nowhere near ready to start returning.

I fear others are right George and you're a little blinded by your desire to see Sheridan. I still think she will come back but I'd be surprised if it's less than 4 weeks from now

Surely if she's made a full recovery and she's on the up now, then I would've thought that she would be back say 2 weeks?

Surely if she's made a full recovery and she's on the up now, then I would've thought that she would be back say 2 weeks? George, it'll take as long as it takes. The priority should be her recovery and ensuring she is fully fit and healthy in general, not just in order for her to get back to a theatre. Ultimately that is not important. Her long term health is.
No one can predict whether she'll be back in 2 weeks, 4 weeks or not at all. That will be one for her and hopefully whoever is supporting her. there is no point in speculating.

Surely if she's made a full recovery and she's on the up now, then I would've thought that she would be back say 2 weeks? I have to say, that whenever you collapse, it's not a sign things are all good in your body, whether it is self inflicted or another condition. I have a few episodes of blacking out, sometimes with injuries because of it, it's a medical condition. Whenever it has happened my body has felt weakened for a good while afterwards because of the impact of a fall or whatever. One time I had to recover in a couple of days to do a teaching exam for dance, then had to take some recovery time off as my body just wasn't there. The demands of this show are so great, that in two weeks after this, I doubt her body will be fit enough to come back to the show. You have to be fit to do these shows, especially this role, cardio has to be there, you have to be strong. She won't be not there one day and on stage the next, she will have to be actually practising and training before she is ready to do the whole show again, because you lose that quickly and she will have to build up her stamina for the role again. I don't see it as being a quick fix, but a plaster on her and she can do the show again. If you are hoping to see her in a couple of weeks, after this news, I would e prepared to be disappointed. I'm going on the 16th and I am expecting to see Natasha.

Also George, does it sound like a full recovery? A collapse that requires emergency treatment and an ambulance?
If she isn't known for having these episodes, then usually a perfectly healthy person doesn't just collapse like that for no reason. And certainly not someone who is expected to carry a full on west end show.

Was she working on tv stuff in the break between the Menier and Savoy runs? Did she get any time off during that period?
