I reckon they'll be looking for another name to see it through to October.

At least they seem to be doing more to look after her now.

I think that's the best decision they could've made. When all is said and done, it's just a musical. Disappointed fans will have to take a much-needed back seat, as Sheridan's health should come before anything, and the show will continue with high-quality performances. I wish her a speedy and healthy recovery.

Who's probably free at short notice and a name that can go on Posters if a star name is required. This will affect the west end as a whole. Remember those who are refused a refund or exchange will much less likely go the theatre again for a while.

The show is heavily sold though at up to £125 a ticket - sold out most weekends already. I would love to see Natasha in the role - I am sure she is splendid but I wouldn't pay £125 for a decent seat!
Here I think is the nub of the issue - if the top price is say £70 - you have paid to see the show and should have no issues with a capable understudy but surely folk are only paying £125 to see "Sheridan Smith in Funny Girl". It is the only reason the producers can actually sell tickets at those prices.
I would have said dynamic pricing would come into play (downwards)in the next 4 weeks while Sheridan is off but the tickets have already been sold!

I'm interested to see what they are gonna do with all those tickets for people who swapped to the Savoy on the basis of seeing Sheridan, surely if she's not there they will have to refund? And no that's a jibe at Natasha, I'm sure she is amazing, I know friends who have seen her and say she is brilliant, but the tickets were swapped to see Sheridan, so if she isn't on..... Well report back anyone who had tickets swapped to whilst she's off

I'm glad she's getting time off, yes they sold the run on her name, but she is human and I really sympathize with her... I really hope that during this time off she has good company that'll look out for her/ be there for her... I do think she will be back, and I think she'll be better for this break, but really only time will tell..

Premium seats for G&D were £125 at the Savoy, I know they had a couple of household names in it, but no one I'd personally (although I maybe wrong) a massive star.

No way. It will be a mamouth task getting a name to do it.. Let alone finding one suitable. They can't just put Claire Sweeney or Denise Van Outen in it. They will still be paying Sheridan and won't want to pay for a 'name' on top of that. And if they can run it with an understudy without audiences screaming for their money back, they will. I reckon they'll be looking for another name to see it through to October.

The whole 'people paid a lot of money to see one person, not the show' thing was discussed at SO much length on the Sunset Boulevard thread, it would be a shame to see this get bogged down with all of that repeated discussion (obviously not trying to ban certain areas of discussion, this is a discussion board after all!! Hope it's understood what I mean). Though Sheridan is of course nowhere near the 'Hollywood star' that Glenn Close is, in principle, it's the same thing all over again. It'll be at the discretion of the producers, one assumes. Anyway, Sunset Boulevard happened, people were disappointed, but hey, we all came out the other end relatively unscathed. I'm sure (well, I hope) much the same will happen to the audiences here.

If they brought it one of those two I'd want compensation on top of my ticket money back for the insult of thinking I'd sit through one of them #NoOffence

And this episode will no doubt do wonders for Natasha Barnes' career and as she goes on to potentially bigger and better things, people will be able to look back and say "I remember seeing her when . . . ".

Remove the star and don't give them a refund might mean next time they don't bother booking.

Best decision all round. Sheridan gets a break, Natasha gets a great opportunity and the audiences know in advance what to expect when they turn up at the theatre.
However, if she can't come back after 4 weeks they need to either give the role to Natasha or re-cast.

Glad to see that Sheridan is taking time out. Hopefully, she'll be able to spend time with her dad and get the help and support she needs.

What a mess. Proves that they weren't "technical difficulties".. Doing 8 shows a week is hard work. Good luck to Natasha and Sheriden

I wonder if they bothered to give her a contract after that outburst about the absence of one while it was running st the MCF.
If they didn't then they're not obliged to pay her and she's not obliged to go back.

That won't happen. Surveys have shown that the overwhelming majority of people at West End musicals go to the theatre once a year or less* so they wouldn't go to the theatre again for a while regardless, and after a year or two they'll have forgotten all about it. On top of that, people who go to the theatre regularly are the most likely to be OK with seeing understudies. * This is one of the reasons why the standard of customer service is often so low. Why should you care about keeping your customers happy when you know they're never going to come back anyway?

Good news, but this show really needs a star if it is to be a big deal. It is written around a star turn- it's lovely that the understudy has shown what she can do- but the production will lose lustre without someone at the centre making it an event.
That's why it has taken so long for Funny Girl to return to the West End (and indeed Broadway).
Make no mistake, I am not demanding that Sheridan drags herself back to the Savoy- far from it. The production should have had an alternate/ stand-by rather than an understudy in the same way that Donna McKechnie was there to cover Chita Rivera in case of absence from The Visit, for example.
