I might have said this before, but here we go again: I would love to see Mulan on stage. I saw a somewhat touristy "kung fu" show in Beijing in spring that absolutely boggled my mind and I thought how fantastic it would be to see this kind of artistry on a western stage. Mulan immediately sprang to mind. The whole backdrop of ancient China would make for great stage sets (at least if they do it better than the bland pseudo-Arabian stuff they conjured up for Aladdin), the dragon could be one of those "talking points" of scene wizardry the way falling chandeliers and rising helicopters were 20 years ago and not to mention that Mulan is a proper strong female heroine and the whole show would be a great opportunity for Asian performers to shine.

I just want to see the existing shows that have yet to make it to the UK, like The Little Mermaid and Tarzan, before I start wishlisting anything else. I'd be SO THERE for Hercules though.

They haven't been able to come up with a decent solution for The Little Mermaid unfortunately. I had high hopes when I saw it in the Netherlands but it was filled with so much bland filler material that I just kept wishing they'd get on with it. This show could only be rescued by some amazing underwater scenery but someone has yet to come up with something. As for Tarzan, I personally didn't dislike it when I saw it on Broadway and they did improve on it in the Netherlands/Germany. Not sure it would sell well to the much more sophisticated West End audience that also has a much bigger choice of family-friendly shows. If you fancy a trip to the continent, Tarzan is now on in Oberhausen, easy to reach by plane through Düsseldorf (just don't book Lufthansa) and next door to hotels, shopping mall and whatnot. Could also pop over to see Starlight Express next door. |

Surprised Pocahontas hasn't been mentioned yet. I'd love to see that one, and be it for someone belting Colors of the Wind.
Also agree with Tangled and Mulan.

This will never happen but I would love ‘Pocahontas’, it came out in 1995 when I was 11 and I have loved it’s score and the film ever since (it’s completely underrated in my opinion) – Would love the big theatrical treatment to ‘Just around the Riverbend’, ‘Colours of the Wind’, ‘Savages’ and ‘If I never knew him’. |

Yes I would love Mulan too. Also Disney's version of Sleeping Beauty. Aristocats maybe but I'm not sure how they'd do it.

It was supposed to be this winter but obviously on hold because of John Tiffany's involvement with Harry Potter. Hopefully it will still happen sooner or later, despite what the purists say about a NT/Disney collab! As for other Disney films, I'd still love to see Bedknobs and Broomsticks (as SOME of it is animated) if given the "Mary Poppins" treatment... Because we don't have enough Julian Fellowes/Stiles and Drewe collabs right now! Also I love to see the musical version of the Jungle Book by Mary Zimmerman that premiered in Boston a few years ago make its way over here or Broadway. Especially now they've remade the film. |

Count me in also for Bedknobs and Broomsticks, whose great score and story is crying out for a stage adaptation filled with creative illusions and imaginative (high tech) design. I remember reading recently that Alan Menken favours future adaptations of Tangled and Hercules, but couldn't envision Pocohontas ever making it to the stage. As a Menken fan from childhood I'd be happy with any of those three (personally I would have thought Pocohontas would have been the most straight forward to translate). And having seen Hunchback in Berlin and at The PaperMill a combination of those two versions (without the gargoyles but also without the unnecessary Frollo backstory) should be Disney's priority right now. So long as they put the full choral version of Someday back too.. |

The Aristocats are meant to household cats, it would look a bit strange having people dressed like cats interacting with actual people It's not animated but I hope Father of the Bride comes into fruition, it was being developed as a stage musical with Bartlett Sher directing |

The Aristocats are meant to household cats, it would look a bit strange having people dressed like cats interacting with actual people It's theatre, it doesn't have to be literal. Have the people playing cats dressed in costumes that represent their personality but are also noticably feline. When cats are on stage with cats and interacting with cats, they do all the movement themselves. When cats are on stage with people and interacting with people, have puppets operated by the actors playing the cats. Done well, it would could be extremely lovely, and bridge the gap between cats and people very nicely. And that's just the first idea that springs to my mind, I'm sure theatrical practitioners would be able to come up with all sorts of other ideas to make it work. |

Hercules is a good score but the cartoon (didn't do well in the cinemas)and the show on the Disney ships both are pretty bland. I did see a trailer for a live action film "Rapunzle" on you tube a week ago, but this could have been a mash up by a fan? Love Aida, Tarzan and of course Hunchback to come as full shows here. Certainly Lady & the Tramp / Aristocats could be done "cats" wise. If they have done Lion King then any thing could be possible. Am I right in thinking 101 Dalmations has been done as a show in the UK with loads of kids as puppies? Sleeping Beauty with the Tschaikovsky music could pull in the punters. I also remember Disney did a Mulan show in that awful place Disney Paris (the other parks are great but ....) It was performed in the big round café which I think is now part of a Toy Story ride. The main problem for the "old" cartoons would be especially in the UK Snow White, Peter Pan, Cinderella are all Panto's here. Yes I know also is Aladdin but I would class this as a go see it - don't want to go again musical unfortunately.
