This is said to be part of the line up in Marinanne Elliot's first season by herself. A 80 minute cracking play by Simon Stephens, which I just caught on Broadway. No set apart from 2 tables and 2 chairs, so when this does play the West End should be plenty loot to decent cast this, just like they did in New York.
If I knew this was coming over this time last week, I probably would have skipped it and seen something else.

The Broadway production isn't transferring to London. Instead, Marianne Elliott will open her season by directing a new production.

I am quite interested in this. But does anyone else think it's bizarre to announce a 5-show season without definitely having a theatre to put it into (Baz's article says they are 'in discussions with the West End's major theatre owners)?

Didn't think the Broadway production would transfer and glad it isn't, we have actors here who could equally do a Stirling job.
Think Marianne would have a theatre group interested in working with her, she is a big name in the theatre world and should be made the next artistic director of the National, hen it becomes available - could be somewhere small, like Vaudeville or Trafalgar Studios.

I'm sure many would agree with you, but from The Stage: "In 2013, Elliott ruled herself out of the running to replace Nicholas Hytner as director of the NT, claiming it would be “particularly difficult” as a mother". Don't know whether that means a permanent ruling out or just for now, but obviously won't be happening any time soon! |

I know its a way off but looking forward to this, seemed a bit odd to premiere a play set in London with English characters in NY? Hope the cast is good. She would have been my choice to take over at the national but she obv wasnt a candidate.

Baz reporting that this is to open in October and that as yet unconfirmed negotiations are ongoing with the Gielgud for this and other Elliott Harper productions including Oedipus to Antigone directed by Yael Farber in January 2018 and Company in April.

It is tough running a company in the commercial sector, you have to put up with whatever rotten theatres are available for a start, pity she hasn't taken over at one of the medium-sized subsidised venues instead. |

This season looks far more enticing than the Bridge Theatre. Hopefully they will do a season ticket coz i would be up for going to all three.

When Baz announced this season back in November, he said it would run for over a year and that Company would be followed by a new play and a comedy, so there may be 5 productions in total (although his latest piece the project makes no mention of the last two shows).

It is the opposite of what directors have done before, run a building and then run a commercial company (Peter Hall, Grandage, Hytner for example), not sure if she is successful she would ever want to move to running a building - let's see. |

Don't forget that Marianne Elliott was one of the co-artistic directors of the Royal Exchange, one of the leading theatres in the UK.

They could cast an American name in the MLP role here. |

Oh hurrah. Love Anne Marie Duff. And obviously it's me, I'll be seeing all the HarperElliot productions anyway. That I can do it cheap (ticket skills permitting) with Anne Marie Duff is a bonus.
