Oh, wow. I’d give her the benefit of the doubt, she must be gutted to be missing the last few shows. But I do think some of the reactions here are way too harsh. The real star of the show isn’t Patti, even though she’s missed some shows as well (no, I’m not Glenn Close. Or maybe...🤔).

At this performance the role of BOBBIE will be interrupted by a crying twink in the stalls

Well. Jonny B is still as gorgeous as a really gorgeous thing, The Fleesh is still as cute as a button and almost steals the whole show and Patti looks like she's having just the best time. She's the absolute star of this show.
Jennifer was great and there's a really funny part when PJ asks Bobbie how many people she knows, "how many black people?" and she gives a great look to the audience that's almost Patti-esque in it's campery!
Mel and Gavin almost cracked up during the jiu-jitsu scene too and the 'pot scene' is still the most boring part of the show and I wouldn't miss it a jot if it wasn't there. Still, it gave me a few moments to check my phone. I live dangerously. That's how I roll.

Still think she was great after that rendition of Being Alive? I'm not sure there was even one note she sang correctly

Agreed. J's rendition of that song is a train wreck. Sad but accurate.

Hope you still enjoyed this amazing show! I did enjoy it Everyone else was fab I was just having flashbacks to the end of the Dreamgirls run, when the final cast screamed at me for two hours, and ruined my happy memories of the show Just shows you how integral Rosalie is to this production of Company! I am looking forward to her future projects

At this performance the role of BOBBIE will be interrupted by a crying twink in the stalls Uhhhhhhh. I did laugh at 'crying twink' (forgive me?) but seeing this notice would make my heart sink. I have every respect for people who love to see alternates and understudies but it's not for me. For the same reason that once I start returning to a restaurant, I always have the same thing, if I returned to a show and saw an understudy I would be in bits.

You're right I think the effect of seeing an understudy is even more pronounced in the case of Bobbie, as she is on stage for almost the entire show

So the first time I saw this I found Bobbie almost incidental, always at the side sort of framing the action everyone else was involved it. And at that stage I honestly wouldn't have cared who played it and I left wondering if Craig had much stage presence.
The second time, having I guess, taken in Dame Patti and all the couples the first time, I was much more aware of Craig and did indeed think she was sensational.
I do wonder if in the piece she's meant to be central or peripheral. Both I guess. It took me two shows to properly appreciate her though.
God, I am commenting on the structure of two Sondheim shows today. I no longer recognise myself.

LOL!!!!!!! Brilliant!
What have you become?!
Like you, Bobbie made very little impression on me, other than she came across as the type of woman I don't generally gel with.

Ditto! Ha - I have no idea. Fear not, as soon as Company and Follies are gone I plan to spend the entire Summer commenting exclusively on Joseph, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita! And normal service will be resumed.

The gender bender aspect of this production is still interesting to me.
This was my first experience of Company, but I couldn't imagine liking the show if Bobbie was a man.
At the start of the thread there are several posts about being unsure about a woman in the role, which is understandable as people were used to a man.
The cast mentioned it in an interview, but today audiences would struggle to give a flying f*** about a single 35 y/o bachelor.
Bobbie as a female character is far more nuanced.

I totally get it’s never a guarantee but I do always feel sorry for people when the person they realllllly wanna see isn’t on, especially if these people have spent a load of money on a ticket, flown from abroad, or travelled 100s or 1000s of miles soecifically, and won’t get another chance . I remember reading of someone who’d flown to New York from Australia specifically to see Sara Bareilles in Waitress but she was off sick the the time she was there! 😭 No offence to Stephanie Torns who is by all accounts a great understudy Jenna, you would be gutted having to watch her instead in that situation!
