Not only does he look amazing, he sounds great and is both hilarious and touching at the same time. Agree 100%. I think he brings more nuance to his role than Jonathan who I found to be a bit overwrought and lacking in subtlety, precariously teetering on the very thin line between character and caricature. I know I am in the minority here in regards to JB. While I enjoyed his performance, your description is spot on - definitely teetering on the very thin line between character and caricature. MORE of the OTT-gay than Stanford Blatch IMO (who's favourite musical incidentally is not a Sondheim but Miss Saigon). Anyway, I don't think I'd give him an Oliver for it. Fleeshman is a much more nuanced and subtle performance which I loved (and of course his body is something else lol). |

Still the best show in London, just amazing. Rosalie, Jonathan, Richard, Patti, the whole cast are just phenomenal and blowing the roof off the Gielgud.
We did have a brief gaff involving Jonathan's exit where the bouquet was lost in the madness of Not Getting Married and there was almost an awkward moment of what happens now, but he worked around it, delivered that final line and got his exit applause as deserved. Also, during one of the numbers, Patti had a brief coughing fit at the back, almost small enough no one would notice, but I did sorry for a second. But she was fine and shut the place down with her Ladies who Lunch. Just amazing, almost wanna go back right now! 😂😂

Really enjoyed this evening's performance. This is a very clever production with some lovely performances. I do agree with most of the posts on here although I feel Patti LuPone is overrated.

At 42nd Street I was chatting to the lady next to be about how much we loved Company and the guy next to me, and the three behind all chimed in and said they hated it, but all agreed they realised they are very much in the minority.

Saw this yesterday and really enjoyed it. The interesting thing, I thought, was that the gender swap didn't jar at all. It seemed completely natural. And I say this as someone who saw the Adrian Lester Donmar production and the 2010 concert production, with many of the same cast, in honour of Sondheim's 80th birthday. I also have the Donmar cast recording and so that version is pretty much lodged in my brain. Thought the whole thing was incredibly slick and just felt confident from the opening bars that I could relax in to what was going to be a quality production. Having seen Jonathan Bailey in 'The Last Five Years' I wasn't surprised that he could carry off his part. I have to admit though that the part of Joanne for me stays associated with Hadyn Gwynne who bought a wonderful physicality to it in the 2010 concert version. Thought the whole cast were tremendous - my seventeen year old daughter and I had a good chat on the way home about objectifying men because of Richard Fleeshman!
For what it's worth we were in the centre of row R of the stalls and I thought that for just under £30 a ticket (bought direct from the website) that was a good deal. All that we missed seeing from there was the orchestra. Marianne Elliott was sitting at the end of the row in front of us.

Well it’s safe to say I’m really glad I chose to see this during its run! Had so much fun. Jonathan Bailey has the whole audience roaring and Rosalie Craig was just lovely. Also decided that I’m gonna make my alarm Patti singing RIIIIISE

A big theatre full for a year can get as many viewers as a single episode on TV. Most of the population would never have heard of Company. A travesty I know and they don't know what they are missing! |

I keep toying with the idea of whether I would want to go to the trouble of seeing it again. But I think the answer is no. I didn't get enough from it. It's big failing from my point of view is I could not connect or particularly care for the Bobbie.
It's a great production though.

Glad that I saw it and should advise to go and see this show, not in the least being a different musical compared to the blockbusters like Phantom, Les Mis,... Amazing outstanding performances (like Patti LuPone who easily proves why she is still one of those theatrical legends), brilliant staging and directing, but some of the spoken scenes could have been cut shorter I think.. But perhaps performance rights wise this wasn't possible?

I walked into this with no prior knowledge yesterday - didn't know the plot, hadn't heard the music.
LOVED it. I know there's been discussion here about Jonathan Bailey, but honestly I just want him in everything. I thought he balanced really well between heartbreaking and hilarious. Give me a one man show please!

I went this afternoon and really liked it a lot. Previously I'd enjoyed the Daniel Evans one in Sheffield, although I couldn't remember a lot about it. Really enjoyed this one, and loved Rosalie Craig. I loved the staging with all the boxes. I found some of the lyrics a bit tricky to catch, but maybe that was where I was sitting.

I was in this afternoon too. I know the show, music etc but this is the best production I’ve seen. Hats off to the direction more than anything, very very clever and the performances were outstanding. So glad to see this Sondheim doing well, next up Follies again for me! Can’t wait.

Tempted to book for the closing night of this. Whilst I don’t think anything - in the short term at least - will match the 42nd Street closing, I imagine this as having a very special energy around it on closing night - especially for Rosalie and Patti.

I'm going back twice before it closes, although I'm not seeing the last show, and I saw it in late-ish previews (the performance I saw was originally supposed to be the day after opening night, but they pushed the opening back a week). Tick Tock was in it, but it's going to be very interesting to see how - and if - the production holds up without the element of surprise.
